Laptop suggestions for ootp11?

This might be the wrong forum, but I will give it a shot. I am looking at buying a new laptop and I've set my budget at $650 (max). The problem I have is that I really don't know what a good deal is anymore. Will I even be able to find a laptop that runs ootp well for $650? If the question sounds absurd, it just goes to show you how little I know about computers these days.

FYI, I am not buying the computer solely for OOTP. I travel a lot for work and the laptop I use now is somewhat of a dinosaur. It's time for an upgrade. If anybody could link me to some good deals I would appreciate it.

You should be able to easily find a laptop that can run OOTP in that price range. Video card won't matter really, just get a decently fast processor, a good amount of RAM and a fairly big hard drive. The only thing that really matters is screen size and that depends how much you plan to haul it around. A big screen is nice for playing OOTP but it does add to the weight.

Absolutely you can find a good laptop on that budget. My old $499 laptop runs ootp fine and you can get more for your money now a days.

I would suggest at least 2 gigs of ram. most will have at least 3 to 4 anyways. and a dual core processor (ootp wont utilize dual cores directly, but you want to have it anyway). and at least a 250 gig drive. Also, most graphics chips on new laptops should play the game fine, but I would sugest something that will play HD content, like the HD 4500.

what screen size were you looking for... 15 or 17 inches?

Honestly, ANY new PC these days should run OOTP like a charm unless you're going to create some ridiculously complicated world (40 leagues with 50 teams each and 50 years of history, etc. etc.)

I mean, here's one for $350 that would run OOTP beautifully, I suspect:

If I were you I'd more look at the specs a computer has, not so much its price. Of course, if you have a budget then you need to be under it, but focus on whether it has the specs you want.

My knowledge is a bit too outdated as well, but I'd recommend at least 2 things: get at least 2MB of RAM, preferrably more, but not less (I can play OOTPX no problem on only 1GB of RAM, but I'd definitely set my minimum at 2 by now); get a resolution of at least 1024x768 (unless the minimum is decreasing for OOTP11; you can get OOTP to work on smaller with a special program, but I think those who have would probably say it's not ideal).

No matter what you get, however, as long as it's not too old it should play OOTP just fine and probably will years into the future (Markus, if you ever plan on going with fancy graphics any time in the next few years, please do tell us all). You should instead probably look into making sure it plays whatever other games you might like to play on it, like Civ4 (Civ4 freezes constantly on my old laptop while OOTPX never has a problem).

My old half-******ed Gateway laptop that was 5 years old could run OOTPX without any issues until it died for good last August. That thing was a piece of junk when I bought it, so...basically anything bought today should be fine.

This thread kinda worries me that I won't have enough RAM to play. OOTP8 worked on my computer but now I'm seeing 2, 3, 4 GB recommendations.. wow. Is 512 enough?

Are you using XP or Vista? It'll probably be ok if you're using XP, Vista hogs memory a bit more. Not sure about Win 7.

You should be fine with 512mb. I think this particular game would deal more with your processor than anything, and still being text-based I imagine it will not overly tax it unless, as someone else said, you run a league the size of the world.

I'm certain it will work on my old Sony Vaio, OOTP 10 did, and if it doesn't, I guess I'll put it on my desktop with 6 GB RAM and a hardcore processor.

rig99, it's always better to have more, but like the previous poster said 512 should be fine for ootp11. People are recommending 2+ because he's buying new, and there's really no reason to get less than 2 gigs right now. Also, a new laptop will most likely ship with win7, which should have 2+ gigs to run at it's best.

This is the one that I ended up with.
It's more expensive that I intended to pay, but it should last me for a while. Plus I think it will play OOTP really well.
