Scheduled: Klitschko Vs Chambers

Boxing desperately needs the upcoming Wlad Klitschko-Eddie Chambers heavyweight title fight to be an exciting spectacle. More importantly for our little group, Title Bout needs a bunch of exciting competitive fights to put the spotlight on the sport worldwide to get folks talking about boxing again so Andreas has some leverage to work on Title Bout Championship Boxing.

Promotors have got to get the overpaid behemoths of the heavyweight division to get off their backsides and fight. At the same time, they should be trying to get something going in the cruiserweight division. It's big guys who drive the sport.

So, does Chambers have any chance of beating today's Jess Willard in Wlad Klitschko?

Chambers is fast, he has a solid defence and he is tricky. Can he beat Wlad? Hell no.

The only style of boxer that can beat Wlad is a swarmer with above average punching power which is why he doesn't fight them. Chambers has neither the style or the punch to win this fight.

Wlad 8th rd tko probably no knock downs Eddie will probably win one of the ist 7 rds maybe 2 at the most Wlad will dominate the fight with his long body and jab until Eddy has nothing left.

There isn't anyone out there right now who, at first glance, has much of a chance of beating Klitschko. Of course, in the Heavyweight division, anyone can walk into a bomb and become a KO victim. But all things being equal, the better fighter usually wins - even if the opponent has a troubling style.

Also, with Manny Steward in the corner, Klitschko has the advantage of bringing a "made to order" strategy into the ring against each opponent. A good trainer can go a long way towards preparing a fighter to exploit the weaknesses in his opponent.

Eventually, though, if the right opponent doesn't catch up to a champion, time does. There are only so many fights in a fighter and then the end comes. That's what makes watching older fighters so interesting. It's like watching the old gunfighters in Western movies. Sooner or later, someone who's just a little bit faster comes along... and that's all it takes.

Maybe him. Wlad, since joining with Manny, fights outside defensively so that he avoids slugging it out as he did with the South African several years ago. His power is elite enough that he can still hurt fighters employing that style. Otherwise, he would be Tony Thompson, good, but nothing to write home about.

Yeah, I don't see Fast Eddie doing anything against Wlad either. Maybe if he got himself into good shape it would be closer, but no American heavyweight seems to have the resolve to do that the way the Klitschko brothers do. Or for that matter the way just about every high class boxer from light heavy on down does.

Vitali is ripe to get beat, I think he should retire before it happens. He lost his sense of range in the gomez fight and it continued in his last bout. Fortunately for him, Johnson was inept and gomez didn't wasn't in condition to take advantage of Vitali's deterioration. The middle fight against Arreola was a legit butt kicking. Vitali regained his form for that fight. Also, he looked softer in the body for his last bout.

I'm not huge on David Haye, but I think he will beat Vitali if they fight.

Wouldn't it be great if Chambers surprised Klitschko somehow and knocked him out? Okay. Maybe knocked out would be too much. Cut him real bad and they stopped it. Okay. Maybe they would impossible. Maybe made Klitschko hurt both his hands real bad with his face and Wlad had to retire in his corner while Chambers got carried out.....no...that wouldn't be good for Chambers. Okay, Chambers has this club see.....

Chambers is a well schooled heavyweight with alot of skill. But he lacks the fire or aggressiveness to beat Wlad. What kills him is his lacadasycial style. Thats what lost him the Povetkin fight because he definitely outclassed Alexander. But Chambers is VERY easy to outwork. This actually is a horrible match-up. Both guys are very cautious and defense-first minded fighters. I expect Wlad to win an EXTREMELY boring decision. I'll still be watching though praying for the day an American holds up one of the alphabet titles. But again I think I'll be sadly dissapointed. Just like the Arreola fight.

The way i see it, Klitschko is a low-risk fighter who has to be forced into taking risks. Chambers can't do that. Just like Chagaev couldn't and many others couldn't. Of the active HW's, Vitali could force him to throw the right hand more than two-three times per round, so could the speedy mobile guys (Haye + Adamek) and perhaps someone whose style is bad for him (Boytsov, Arreola (given that he stops eating and starts training)). Until we get those fights, he is gonna keep pumping the jab, sucking the will out of opponents and beating them with ease, with low risk and with minimum entertainment. Chambers can counter, but Wlad is not going to throw and miss like Povetkin did and he will pump the jab for 8-9 rounds till Chambers can't take no more.

Isn't it exciting? This huge fight is only days away now. Rumours flying that Chambers has a secret defensive strategy to defeat Klitschko...

If Chambers can avoid that long left of Wlad's, this could be interesting.

I seem to recall that few picked Clay to beat Liston. Liston was just too big...

Face it, Klitschko's no Ernie Terrell. All he's got are a stiff jab and a pretty decent right hand. Once in a while he remembers to throw a hook. I could see Chambers eluding Wlad's big guns and out-pointing him. Klitschko has already started looking past the speedy Yank.

Well, so much for Chambers. He had the worst cornerman I've seen in years. Totally useless. No plan. No tactical advice. Not impressed with the ref either. He should have taken a point away from Klitschko for draping himself over Chambers, and warned him for measuring Chambers with his left. That is illegal as far as I know.

When I heard that Chambers was Wlad's former sparring partner I lost my remaining hope that he would do something. From at least the 10th round, Chambers seemed lost in there. Too bad he got tagged after all that work.

I watched the fight and it was a nice win for Wlad, he isn't the most thrilling heavyweight in history, but he employs a perfect style for his build, personality, and skills. Chambers was a perfect opponent for him; a one dimensional passive boxer with little to no punching power. Fast Eddie didn't stand a chance.

Yeah, historically you'd expect a pressure fighter to give him the most fits, which might have been why Chris Arreola was shunted off to his bigger-puncher brother. Nonetheless, the HW division really does look bereft. I mentioned this about Eddie Chambers up a little and I'll repeat it: the Klitschko brothers seem to be the only major heavyweights right now interested in keeping in decent shape for their fights. A guy like Fast Eddie in particular could really benefit from losing around 20 pounds of fat (granted that that would make him a cruiserweight); how is a stick and move guy supposed to be at all successful when he has a tire around his belly that keeps him from doing the second bit?

Is it wrong to ask for a Great Black Hope to emerge from somewhere in America who can finally knock this guy's socks off? David Haye is close enough, I guess.

If Haye gets past Ruiz which isn't a sure thing. Haye is closer to the skill set required to defeat Wlad, but Haye isn't much defensively.

There really aren't any fighters who are around today like that. That's the most difficult style for an upper-tier fighter to maintain. It requires great conditioning which is why there are only a handful of really good pressure fighters above 200 lbs. every decade.

Most swarming heavies are done after a handful of rounds. Actually, pressure fighters at any weight are a nightmare to fight. Whichever way you cut it, you're going to get hit unless you can blast them outta there first.
