After Patch 4 - Cannot add a new manager to online league

1. What, specifically, were you doing when the problem occurred? Include the specific screen you were on when the problem occurred.

I was deleting an old manager and adding another manager. After deleting the first manager, Washington Nationals should have opened up. They are not available for the new manager. Game crashes randomly when trying to populate available teams.

2. What happened? Was there an error message? If so, what was the specific message?

Game crashes randomly when populating available teams. One availbable team should be shown, but none appear. Error message is OOTP 10 has stopped responding, would you like to go to the web to find a solution.

3. Were you able to repeat the error with this same game? With another game? If so, what steps did you take?

I did. I replicated this on a mac with patch 10.4.28. I first delete the old manager and create a new one. When trying to give the new manager the old manager's team, the game crashed.

4. If relevant, what do you think the program should have done?

Not crashed and allowed me to place the new manager with the Nationals.

5. What is your league configuration (fictional/historical, etc.)

Based on 2008 rosters converted from OOTP 8 to OOTP 9 to OOTP 10. Game was working flawlessly in 10 until this patch.

6. Are you a PC, Mac, or Linux user?
All three. I run the sims on a Windows machine (win 7), but use my mac for everything else regarding my league.

I am not able to reproduce this error. I tried two different methods:

1) I had a manager in an online league resign but I did not delete that manager. Then in adding a new manager, I was able to assign them to that team

2) I deleted a manager in an online league and then created a new manager, I also was able to assign that new manager to the team previously managed by the one I deleted.

I did this from a windows system, you mentioned you run the game on all three platforms. Do you only experience this behavior on one platform and not the others?

Maybe you couldn't reproduce this because you didn't have my league file!! Hello!! I understand how this process works for you, you don't try to understand the problem, you just test it on your squicky clean version. You need to actually use my league file that I have uploaded and check it. I have tried this on a multitude of systems and configs and they all do the same thing.

This problem still exists in 10.4.31 on all systems!

League file is in the ftp bin under my username, eodgooch

I'll just let someone else try to help you with your problem since you obviously aren't interested in my help

After your brilliant troubleshooting before, what would you do? Confirm it on your machine again, wizard.

Dude, chill out. It's totally understandable that you're frustrated because your game won't work right, but that's no reason to get rude with someone who tried to help you. After that reply of yours, how likely do you think it is that anyone's going to want to bother helping you? I sure don't. Alan's not even an employee of the company as most of us aren't. Yeah, it sucks that you can't do what you want and what you should be able to, but this sure isn't the way to go about getting help. Maybe someone who can help you will take pity and still try to help, but you might want to start considering other options including going back to a backup from when things did work. Hopefully it wasn't too long ago that it did work. Maybe try to think back to what you might have maybe done that caused it to not work. Sure, maybe it has nothing to do with something you did, but maybe it does.

You need to calm down.

First of all, you never responded to the questions I asked you in the first place. Second, I almost always try to see if I can replicate something locally before asking for someone else's league file because it is easier. If I can't I usually ask for it. Third, I don't see your league file on the ootpsupport server, but I don't think that is your fault. I think that server is having issues currently and I've asked for help from the OOTP staff to look into it.

So I guess my point is, don't act like this to people who are volunteering to try to help -you- with -your- problem, and if you want someone to look into it, you likely need to make it available via a different method since the ootpsupport ftp does not appear to be working correctly right now.

Feel free to go ahead and insult me further if it makes you feel better.

Does it matter? This won't get fixed anyway. The ftp site isn't allowing uploads. Those of us who had OOTP 8 online leagues that converted to OOTP 10.4.28+ are just going to have to figure something out.

eodgooch, we at OOTP Developments can proudly say that we do our best to fix all bugs and problems in our games, and to make OOTP better each year. "This won't get fixed anyway" is simply wrong.

We've released a new patch today. 10.4.36. Please try that one, it should fix the crash bug when adding managers.

I'm trying to get the FTP site work again, too.

I'd love to lay in on ya, but I'm just wasting my time, as any Captain Obvious realizes you're asking for help, and biting the hand that feeds you with a really lousy attitude.

So, not that you care, but I'm standing up for Alan and Andreas. These guys certainly have better things to do than listen to a community that can be less than grateful...and keep in mind Alan does not work for OOTP!

Alan & Andreas spent the better part of 2 1/2 months working with me to resolve my FTP issues that began after a server migration, which were fixed in 10.4.36 last week after being down for 2 1/2 months! We tried many things, but finally solved the issue by having them work with my server, and tinkering with a few things.

So what you mock in sarcasm, I defend with honor. Andreas (& Markus) stand by the quality of their product, and while not always the best communicators (Or as you would say: They're PROGRAMMERS!!! HELLO!!!), I would at least give them a solid B+/A- rating for the effort and follow through.

Sorry you're having problems on your end, but I'd suggest a different tactic to getting their support, because it sounds like Alan can find some paint he'd like to watch dry now after how you treated him.
