You would think that in 2029 they would be able to fix a torn labrum.

I've got two 1B, Fuster and Collado, in the online league I'm in that have unreal numbers like that (thankfully I'm in the DH league, but I've actually got a 3rd very good 1B so I end up platooning the 3 between the 2 positions) and I dread that day that one of them gets a CEI. The switch to OOTPX and its better injury system can't come fast enough.

Eeesh.

Did this happen while playing out a game or simming? I find that injuries are less likely to happen if I actually play games out for some odd reason, although I did get a CEI to a pretty decent outfielder a few seasons ago while playing out.

It happens, Ron, just like IRL. That's part of what makes this game great. I echo bosunmate's comment.

I really wish the game would finally get rid of career ending injuries. This guy is 25 years old. He is not a pitcher. Wouldn't he at least try a comeback? Maybe at first base, with a possible hit to his power?

Well, I like Career ending injuries, its liek real life. While it would be nice to have a feature on league set up to turn it on or off with one click... we all know with a couple of clicks in commish mode, for those of you who dont like them, they can 'revive' the player.

I'm holding out hope that either mod-makers evolve or the game does- more likely the former -to include an interface utility that would allow us to customize the extent, inclusion, types, etc... and essentially personalize the injury model. The file certainly allows some liberties now, but a user-friendly GUI would simplify the process enormously as well as allowing the user to understand the system more completely.

That's not a bad idea. If I knew more about the injury file, I might take a crack at that one.

Yeh, it's pretty unrealistic that a hitter can suffer a career-ending injury like that, especially a 25-year-old. Maybe something that wipes out their running or fielding ability, but I can't really think of anything that's going to devastate their hitting ability.

The previous homegrown 5-star prospect that I produced also had his hitting ruined by injury. Jeffry Mcguire had perfect infield ratings and a career OPS over .800 when, at age 26:

He was out of the league after a year on my bench. Then there is Lawrence Ewing (thankfully not one of my players this time):

It really seems like there are too many serious injuries to position players that dramatically affect their hitting ability.

I thought it was just me being paranoid, but this was happening to me. It seemed every time I fast-played a game this would happen. Solution: I play out every inning of every game now.

To the OP: I hate CEI's, so I edit the player when this occurs. Uncheck CEI and give him a 499 day injury (500 didn't work for some reason). He's out for about 17 months. Seems reasonable.
It's just that there's enough practical CEI's already - players taking such large hits to rating that they really can't compete anymore - that it's redundant and frustrating.

happy gaming,
Frank

I had Ty Cobb get a CEI at 23 years old. I got over it.

No, but by then the government will pay for the operation, and for the rehabilitation so he can get back to playing baseball sometime around 2040.

I've posted an injuries file that removes CEIs in the Mods subforum.
