Exclamation OOTP 8 Now Available for Free

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing well!

As part of our ongoing efforts to spread the word about OOTP, we are pleased to announce that we are now offering OOTP 8 for FREE for Windows and Mac.

You can download the free version of OOTP 8 here!

This is a fully functional version of OOTP 8. There are no restrictions or limitations. (The game ships with 2007 rosters...)

Of course, if you're on this forum, chances are you already own OOTP 8. This is really more of an approach to attracting new users to the game, but I wanted to be sure to announce this on the forums as well.

Over the next few weeks we will be conducting some additional marketing activities around this free release, so you'll likely see us active on Facebook, Twitter, a newsletter, and so forth.

Help us spread the word!

(Oh, and before everyone jumps on us, getting this out the door required very little of Markus' time. He's been working on some difficult bugs for patch #4! )

Note: OOTP 8 is offered "as-is." We no longer offer active technical support for OOTP 8, nor will we be releasing any future patches.

Thanks!

Steve

I think having a post-rewrite version available for free as a demo will be great for prospective buyers. Great job guys!

How about releasing 6.5? You can keep 8.

Wait, what's the difference between OOTP 8 and OOTP 2007? When was 8 released?

Same game, both released in 2007. "OOTP 2007" was released by Sports Interactive, "OOTP 8" was released by us after we left SI.

8 is far better than 6.5.

One small but very helpful upgrade from 08 to 09/10 is the far easier interface for editing uniforms and stadiums.

That, sir, is a matter of opinion.

A great marketing idea for prospective OOTP players. Trying a previous version of a game for free is a great way to attract new customers.

Then, clearly, 6.5 is worth paying for.

Will this version run on a XP netbook, i.e. is the screen resolution ok?

I think they've said that 6.5 still makes them enough money that it's not worth releasing for free.

While 8 clearly does not, which proves that a lot of people agree with me about which version is the better one.

I lost my ootp6.5 license and wont buy another one. There just really isn't a point in playing that game. Your allowed your opinion that 6.5 is better but remember that there are people that disagree and they have the same rights as you.

Wow! This is a great surprise. Not that I don't think it's a great idea, I certainly do, I just didn't think we'd see it after we talked about it awhile ago (I wonder if fantom1979's post was the seed). I liked the final patch of 8 quite a bit. Here's to hoping it has the desired effect. Nice brave move, guys!

Well yeah, that is the implication.
