Updates from Andreas?

Nice to see the old diehards still hanging on despite the silence from above.

Take note that the last patch from Fearless Leader was released last Fall. And I believe TBCB 2.5 was unleashed upon the world in January of 2008. So it sounds like September to December could be productive months at the home office of Andreas Raht....

Chin up, True Believers! A small pocket of time may yet be available for work on Good Old Title Fight....er....Bout.

Slainte!

Hi, Cap
Mark42661 returned to the forums a short time ago. He was asking about you. You might want to shoot him an email to say hello.

I hate to get my hopes up, but a patch fixing some of the minor issues, on top of the commentary update would be a great christmas present (of course here's to hoping christmas comes early this year)

At the recent APBA convention in Las Vegas, ownership announced the boxing relationship between APBA and the Trunzo's could possibly be re-established. Based on the lack of continued progress with Title Bout, this is a hopeful sign.

Maybe a complete new type of boxing sim nothing like tbcb for the table top type board game APBA seems to be going that route now.

If there is another APBA-Trunzo deal forthcoming, it needs to be substantially better than their previous effort . . that game was lousy.

Is "substantially" really a strong enough sentiment.
I thought the Trunzo's sold the rights to the game to our fearless leader.

I believe that they retained the rights to any future board game versions in that deal. I suppose that APBA and the brothers could be cooking something up on that front.

I really wonder though what the market could be for a strictly board game version of anything these days. Especially given the difficulty for niche market computer text-based sports sims - those interested in a paper-based version has to be so small that even covering costs is a delusional dream.

I loved all the board games that I have played over the years but even I can't go back to them at this point in any real measure. There can't possibly be a viable market can there?

I'd be likely to buy a board game, but I've already confessed to being an old APBA gamer. I nearly wore out their old boxing board game. Didn't have a PC back then for the computerized version. Buying a game, though, wouldn't mean I'd play. Wouldn't do more than look over the cards and ratings.

Bottom line question....has anyone even talked to Andreas and asked him if he or his team plan to do a patch?

I think it has been asked (and ignored) many times here on the board. Be cool to know something one way or the other.

Who knows maybe a clause that says inactive for a certain period of times frees up the Bros. OR they are only being employed by APBA to create a sim that APBA will own not the bros but one thing for sure it most likely will be a complete different sim it probably will be a complete new type system if APBA owns it who knows it might end up on the Computer.APBA went throught some pretty rocky times in the late 90's and early 2000's so i would thank they would be very careful about the way they would go about something like this.
I to got my start with APBA BASEBALL in 1957 with the 1956 card set i still have them pretty worn i wast 14 at the time i worked in tobacco until i got enough money to seen for the game i checked the mail everday until it came.

I keep imagining Andreas thinking of us this way:

Andreas = smiley, us = fly.

Gaming companies like Strat-o-matic and APBA can barely support table top games for baseball, football, and basketball I can't see how a boxing game can be produced and marketed to the point where a profit would be made. Good luck to them, but with boxing's popularity and the world economy trending downward, the revenue isn't there to support table top boxing.

I would say that 90% of the table top market are over 40 years old. The younger crowd are only interested in computer based games.

I love threads like this one. They take you full-circle! I loved the old boxed games 100%. But like you, Chris, I don't see myself going back until maybe I'm retired or something like that. I've learned to love the "do more in less time" aspect of the computer sim and all the little intricacies that are programmed into the game. Plus, all the games are in 1 box now with a PC or Laptop.

I don't see a new boxing game for the table top doing too well at all, unless maybe you do something like "Boxing All-Time Great Heavyweights" or something like that? That would be a niche within a niche and would have more of a chance possibly?

From a financial standpoint, it seems really risky and in today's market, I really don't see anyone following through with something like this.

The demise of the old "Toy Stores" across the land is a testament to that. You'd be hard pressed to find a really good hobby shop these days, either.

There are game stores all over the place. I just spent 5 hours at one yesterday (RPGA day). They just don't cater to the wargaming/sports board game crowd anymore. Today's crowd is more into collectible card games. I'd like to think that RPGs are making a comeback too but I don't know if that's actually true.
