The FOOL Society!

Welcome to the FOOL Society! The most unique online baseball experience ever!
We are now a trio of extremely fast paced OOTP baseball leagues.

First there was the FOOL! 66 seasons and counting! A 12 team league fictional league played in OOTP 9. This league is currently full.

Then there was FOOL-X. A 12 team fictional league played in OOTP X. Already 4 seasons deep utilizing some advanced X features including StatsLab. We still have 11 or 12 original owners. This league is currently full.

Today plans for FOOL-H have been green lighted! FOOL-H is an OOTP X league that will recreate history. Starting in 1901, FOOL-H use real players in an alternate universe using the same proven system that has made the FOOL franchise one of the most successful in fantasy sports league history.

What is so unique about our system?
The FOOL was created in an attempt to create a fast sim league with the primary focus being on the offseason and the moves made during the offseason (Draft, free agency). While there is less emphasis on game to game strategy, there still remains some regarding which players to use for the entire season as the entire season is simmed in one evening.

Each FOOL league requires high levels of activity as there is an export 5 nights of the week; however it still remains fairly laid back with some level of accommodations made for users who may be unable to export to be able to send in brief instructions via PM to the commish for that sim.

With a single season being simmed every week, it also is fairly easy to turn a bad team around quickly as four to five seasons can pass in a single month of real time.

Why are fast sims better?
Simple. Have you ever wanted to see a player that you drafted get elected into the hall of fame? IT HAPPENS!!! These players are nothing but thousands and thousands of computer calculations bouncing around inside the little box on your desk until it spews out statistics saying whether or not they are safe or out…that is true, but when you see that pixilated character grow, succeed, provide you with weeks of hope and joy, and eventually heartbreak as they age and grow weaker, there is a certain amount of pride to see him called one of the best ever! OK…I may be overly dramatic…but trust me…it effin rocks!
How many leagues have their year end awards named after actual players in the league! The Prado and Tanaka awards are given out to the best pitchers and hitters each year. To some they are just names, but to the veteran gms (and there are many of them) who had to face them in the deciding game of the Championship final, those names MEAN something!
Perhaps in the next 60 seasons, there will be even better players to come along…and we will be faced with the idea to rename the awards…it may happen….we are a progressive league and when something needs to be improved, it gets done!
That said…after 66+ seasons we have faced every glitch known to man, seen every loophole exploited and have always been willing to alter a rule, change a setting, and fiddle around to make things JUST right…There is a reason we have only had 1 owner change since FOOL-X launched...it’s because the league is damn fun, and damn challenging!
That’s why we are starting up the 3rd league. It’s destined to succeed.

So we are recruiting for FOOL-H…Want to relive history but not wanting to wait 20yrs to do it? Check out our forums. There is no flashy webpage; we are run out of the forums. Snoop around in there to learn more about how we run. Better yet join us live and get a taste of the atmosphere of the league while reading Alan’s exciting playoff summaries posted as the games are being run…we had a couple of classic sudden death playoff battles this year that he suspensfully tortured those watching with he game stories!!!! More then one computer had the refresh key burned out!

Fast or slow, these leagues still rank among the best. We run on a schedule, and NEVER miss a sim. We have had to fall back on contingency plans to keep the league going when real life got in the way, but we have the people that are able and willing to step up and do that…The league is uber-stable and will be around long after OOTP-XX is released.

The leagues can be overwhelming, but once you get 3 seasons under your belt and learn the system, you’ll never be able to play a regularly paced league again.

Great league's here. I'm in a few slow paced leagues that I enjoy immensely, but nothing compares to fast paced fake baseball once you've given it a try. Worst thing about these leagues is waiting until Monday for another fix.

3 teams left. The New York Yankees haven't been taken yet. There is supposed to be no franchise movement for 50 seasons (about 1 calendar year) so this is your chance to be creative. Any major league team from any era is available to be taken. For example, somebody took the Chicago Whales of the Federal League.

This league is very appealing, both in its details, and in the enthusiastic activity of its Commissioner and owners.

There is one aspect that I'm curious about: in a league which simulates so many games at once, what happens when a team which suffers a rash of injuries to important players? What if my team lost three of its starting pitchers for two or three months? What if both of my catchers got injured?

Because of that very issue, injuries are turned off. Fatigue is kept on to prevent it from being simply a game of who has the best starters, you really do need a full team, but without any way to address injuries as they happen, that had to be disabled in these leagues.

At first we were concerned on what it would mean for the overall league, the type of stats we would get overall as well as individual stats, the length of players careers, etc.. but after close to 70 seasons, I believe all of us have come to the conclusion that it all works just fine and most of us don't miss the injuries at all.

Instead of an injury short-circuiting a team's season, we often have cases where a player will suddenly start "aging" fast mid-season unexpectedly and that pretty much has the same effect on a team's season as losing their best pitchers for a long duration might have. Really the variable of having to guess at the start of a season how players might do (will the youngsters actually be able to perform at a major league level? Will the old players keep it together for the entire season?) becomes the huge question marks for everyone.

Thanks for the quick response, it makes sense. I don't consider injuries a vital part of the management experience, although it makes sense to use them, in a more slowly-paced system.

Your setup looks great!

Just a quick note, Likely this weekend during our FOOL World Baseball Classic, or Monday during FOOL's 68th season, our sub-forum will reach its 25 thousandth post. This includes 25,000 posts of the various seasons, trades, discussions, arguments/disagreements, congratulations and celebrations for our two (and soon to be a third, new historical FOOL) leagues.

That is alot of posting!

FOOL-H is looking for two owners.

FOOL-H is our historical league that has 16 teams (8 in each league) It operates on a 5-6 day running schedule, with a mix of all sorts of historical franchises from throughout history.

We're entering our 3rd season and we're the newest of the 3 FOOL leagues.

The Louisville Black Caps were the American League Champions this year.

The New York Yankees are pretty much hated by everyone because they're the Yankees. It's an accident they're even in the league at all, because almost no one wanted them there. That said, they won the AL title in our first season and despite a rough year this past season for them, I suspect you'd be able to build them into the juggernaut of real life.

FOOL-H uses OOTP X and this is a great way for you to become part of the FOOL universe! It includes FOOL-X which is our OOTP X fictional league and the original Front Office Offseason League (using OOTP9), now on its 72nd season (I think?) and counting. No fictional league in the OOTP universe comes CLOSE to that sort of production!

If you're interested, register for our forums or drop me a note at arenabaseball [at] gmail.com

Thanks!

So far, after the first two seasons of FOOL-H, the National League is kicking the American League's butts. Need two owners in there that can help make the junior league half-way respectable

I like the Yankees. Somebody take them, please, and kick the AL Yankee-hater butts. Then, I'll play you in the Subway Series (I'm Brooklyn)!

Both New York and Louisville have been snapped up.

But Washington's owner is looking to move on, so there's an opening there if someone is interested.

Doesn't hurt to put your name in on the waiting list if this is something you are interested.

Needless to say there are not really many (if any) other leagues like FOOL out there in this format. So if this is something you are interested in, sign up and something will open up I am sure at some point!

Nevermind. It's already taken. But if you want a fix of fast-sim baseball, be sure to add your name to the waiting list and you'll be able to get in on the action in one of the three leagues when a team opens up!
