Advertising on my dime?

Hi,

When I start up my game I notice that when I click on the Manager message box to check new messages my online browser automatically loads this website`s page advertising ootpx. Look, I realize you are very enthusiastic about moving product, but this is a pain in the ass and frankly an infringement on my time and privacy. In fact it pisses me off that you would continually interrupt my gaming to throw an ad in my face. Because of this you have merely lost major points in PR, where I am concerned.

I don't have this happen when I check manager messages?

Over a # of versions I've off and on noticed behaviour like that clicking different buttons. I think they're merely bugs. Why would they be advertising the game if you've bought it? It doesn't make sense unless they are bugs.

This is an unusual little 'bug' that has crept up on me on a rare occasion. I think it was in v9 and may have been the pitching icon, but an almost surgical location within the graphic. In fact, it happened maybe three times -- ever, and could not be reproduced at will.

Honus, can you reproduce this at will, each and every time? If so, can you post the exact steps you take to make it happen beyond anything you may have included in your original post. I don't work for OOTP, but I think I can assure you this is not intentional. Once you respond, I will get it logged because I know it 'has' happened, but not in X to my knowledge. I just want to include frequency and whether everyone or anyone can make it happen. Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience.

I can confirm that this happened randomly in v9. I haven't seen it yet in vX but agree that it is a very difficult bug to reproduce consistently.

I apologize for the confusion I obviously have caused - this issue involves my copy of ootp9. It involves 10 in a way since I keep being sent to ootpx as mentioned. I posted here because it involved both versions though I should have posted in the 09 forum. I have the impression though that ootp`s community`s attention is focused on x.

To answer your question -- whenever I click on the letter icon at the bottom of the page to access new messages I get sent to the website. It does not appear to happen when there are no new messages. I repeats an undetermined number of times, I havent counted. It seems to happen most on after startups, as if something was being loaded.

If it is not an advert then ootp regains points lost in the PR dept. It would be very cheezy if it were, and likely if it were any other button - like random pitching or whatever, I might have concluded error right off. But to happen with the message button - as in: `here`s a message just for you! ootpx!` - seemed like bit a strong coincidence. But I take your word. Its annoying.

It's the same issue, but not the same place, related to Eugene's continuing battle with writing recaps and it pulls up the player profile occasionally. Somewhere there's a residual link masked behind a graphic.

No problem on bringing it up at all, Honus. The annoying thing now is twofold: it's v9, so nothing's going to happen obviously, and it's not happening in the same darn place it happened to other people in v9! That's just crazy. We'll keep watchful for it in X and now that we know it could happen with the message icon, it'll go on the list of candidates.
