Same Vista Problems as 9

Of course, after I downloaded and tried to launch OOTP 10, I am having the same problems as I did with 9...OOTP found crashed on startup...blah, blah, blah and it won't run...

I uninstalled and reinstall to a custom directory...

Still nothing

Anyone??

So, to clarify: the game installed fine, but when you try to run it, the game crashes?

I apologize, I'm not up to speed on your prior problems...

Just for future reference, bumping your thread will make it take longer for people to reply, not less time, since we typically tackle things from oldest post to newest!

Thanks for the info on the bump...I did not know that and did not want to get lost in the shuffle.

Ok...OOTP 10 loaded fine...Got the license installed...

Then I attempted to run it and first get the OOTP has stopped working message

I try again and get the OOTP crashed on startup and the graphics have been reset.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled to a custom directory with no success...

Had the same problem with OOTP 9 since probably February or so and have never been able to fix it, hence my frustration.

Have been concerned that since OOTP 9 stopped working on my machine (worked fine since last July) Presario F500 laptop, plenty of memory

that I would have the same issue with OOTP 10 and I do. Pleas let me know what other information you might need in order to help get me up and running. Thanks very much for your help and I will try to be patient.

Have you ever tried disabling Data Execution Prevention?

Right now I have turned on "DEP for essential Windows programs and services only..."

I know I need to have an exception for OOTP but am not sure what file it is or where it is located... (OOTP 10 is currently unistalled)

I did however try this for OOTP 9 with no success..

I am also currently updating Windows Vista so maybe that will help??

Maybe but try turning off DEP entirely and if that works, if it does you can back up from there and figure out what you can leave on and leave off. Do you have the newest drivers for your sound card/video card?

Hey man, this is MY streetcorner!

(Listen to him, todd, he knows more than I do.)

Still, definitely try totally turning off DEP.

Same problem here

Same problem for me on Vista. Works fine on my XP PC. But on Vista, I click the logo to start the app and nothing appears to happen.

The link in Post #5 is for XP so it doesn't really work for Vista. In Vista, I managed to find the DEP configuration panel, but it was already set to only operate on Windows processes, not everything. There is no option to disable it completely.

I tried disabling DEP using the instructions found here:
Disabling Data Execution Prevention (DEP)-Vista

But that didn't seem to work either.

I did find this error in the event logs:

Statmind, is your problem precisely the same as he described above? I want to make sure we're not discussing two potentially different problems in the same thread...

I think you're right, they may be different.

My issue is, the app installs (seemingly) fine. Although there's no 'success' page, it just reaches 100% progress on the bar, then I click "Finish" and it seems to be done. The menu items are installed at that point.

From there, clicking "Start OOTP 10" results in the curser changing to the circular 'thinking' logo for about 0.5 seconds, then back to normal cursor without starting the app. When I watch the Task Manager, I can see ootp10 exectuable starting and then disappearing from the task list about 0.5 seconds later.

This is a fairly new HP laptop, purchased and built December 2008. It's Vista Home Premium SP1 on HP Pavilion dv5 notebook.

I did try uninstalling and reinstalling to a custom directory, even after disabling DEP. Seems not to matter.

OK It WORKS!!!!! Thanks Battist and Cody for your help...

FYI-I updated Windows and then completely deactivated my DEP program prior to reinstalling. After I installed I rebooted and ran as administrator. Hopefully it will continue to work.. For now I am not shutting down gonna leave it run in the background as I am worried it wont open again!

Mine works now too

The suggestion for the OP's problem helped me too:

Running OOTPX as administrator in Vista.

That allowed me to launch the app and enter the Order code. What's strange is I exited the app after it started, and restarted without right-clicking to run ad administrator, and it started back up that time.

So it seems that the first execution on Vista may need to run as administrator.

Anyway, thanks for the support, from here it looks like it might work.

(PS public beta would've found this on day 1 sorry)

If running as admin is ultimately all it took for you then that's a widely known issue with Vista for many programs. If it's not already in the FAQ thread, I'll make sure it is.

Since your guys' problems appear to be fixed, I'll move this to the closed board. If you need it re-opened, let us know.
