OOTP 10 Released to Preorders! - Page 5

This kind of blows for entering a first post, but I ordered this game months ago, have waited patiently (sort of) since then, and have not yet gotten any email for the link. No option to PM battists and I just sent a email to some guy in Germany regarding this who is probably asleep right now. Well, I guess it's back to OOTP 5, for now...

Given the problem with so many people that preordered not getting the e-mail for the link, why not just post the links publicly on the forum? What's to lose? That way all of the preorder folks get the link and I don't think they will mind if others also get the link early.

With the hype that is created by the impression threads why wouldn't you want your new customers be able to purchase and access the game spontaneously?

While I see your point, considering that they promised people who pre-ordered that they'd get the game 2 days earlier than those who didn't, I think they should probably keep their word if they want those same people to do the same next year. I know I saw at least one person say that the 10$ discount wasn't important to him, but it was important to him to get it 2 days early. That said, I think the big incentive for OOTP and pre-orderers both is that if you split it up between a general and a pre-release then your download links aren't being hammered nearly as much. Not having to wait through such slow downloads has got to count for a lot.

They could do with a better system of getting out the info though. I'm not sure what, but maybe make the links public but when you pre-order you get a unique (can only be used once) password to access the link and if you don't pre-order then you only get to download when the password is disabled for the full release.

The links get posted now, and they melt the servers and mirrors for four hours.

Friday just won't be much fun for awhile.

Or, simpler, when you pre-order you give your forum account ID and then along with the pre-release emails they send out pre-release mass PMs to all those who pre-ordered. Of course, that would mean you'd have to create an account if you hadn't already, but who wouldn't mind to make sure they get the info asap.

I've download and when trying to install I am getting an error.

"Make sure you have got all required fields"

"No installation data found"

"The instruction at "0x722968fb" referenced memory at "0x04f000cc". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program"

Meh, it's six of one, half-dozen of the other. In order to develop, test, and implement a solution that is more robust than this, and works well for BOTH of our licensing companies, the release would have been pushed back at least a week, probably more. Between Andreas and I, we've probably responded to a hundred of these. It's not perfect, but manageable, and I'm fairly sure everyone would prefer this to not getting the game for another two weeks!
