Hacker Alert

Has the storm passed? Is it ok to visit the All Sim Baseball site again? I ran my virus check programs and I did not come up with any Trojans.

Do you think that the virus was only passed along "if" one made a visit directly to the All Sim site? In other words, the virus was not activated as the result of clicking on a link to the All Sims site from within the OOTP forum?

I hope I haven't caused anybody any unneccessary alarms and I especially hope nobody got bit by a bug.

Irishray is right. Running Linux essentially makes you immune to the trojans and worms and viruses that infest the Internet. You should try it.

You can test drive Linux without installing it, and you can easily set up a dual boot system that allows you to boot to either Linux or Windows, so you can boot to Linux for the Internet and Windows for games and such - or, now, with OOTP having a Linux version, you can just run Linux and be safe and happy and have a far more stable and faster operating system.

Visit Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu for details.

actually Allsimbaseball isn't clean yet. If you click on OOTP 9 Mods, it still has the redirect trojan.
as well as the link under Extras for OOTP8/7 = User Mods & Databases

I'm going to try Linux. I've already got a dual-boot XP/W7 setup, might as well go three-way.

if you simply visited the allsim website and did not click on any links within allsim baseball, you should be perfectly ok.
the link posted within the OOTP forums did not give out any trojans or put anything on anybody's computer. right now there are still traces of junk within allsim, but nothing that will put stuff on your machine; to the best of my knowledge.

If you just use Linux as your Internet OS, you will still come out ahead. No one will hack you or mess with you and you won't download any malicious software. It's the safe mode for the Internet. You will be using Linux versions of standard programs, too, which will make it easy for you - Firefox, Opera, Thunderbird, etc.

It's a better OS, it's a more stable OS, it's a risk-free OS, and it and 99.9% of the Linux software out there - including Linux itself - is free.

And since the OS source code is public and not top secret, the very best systems programmers in the world are ogling it daily looking for possible bugs to fix.

Try it out, it's free and you have nothing to lose and a world to gain.

Well, it's been a bit of a rough week but I'm happy to announce that www.allsimbaseball.com has some new digs. We've upgraded to a completely new CMS software and made plenty of design changes. Most of what was on the old site is still available and what isn't you can still get as I've left a smaller, closed door version(to prevent any form injection) of the old site up at www.allsimbaseball.com/oldasb

Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Smart decision to go with something completely new. With just trying to clean up the old it'd be hard to be completely sure it was all clean.

After a quick glance the only things I'd recommend are adjusting the menu text alignment and getting a sharper image of that small baseball.

I like CMS, if for nothing else because it makes it so easy to make changes.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Aligned. Yeah that little baseball was quite crisp and clear but after I reduced it's size, it looks a bit frayed. I'll have to look into some alternatives.
