Release Date

When will a release date be announced? I love OOTP9 and plan to pre-order OOTP 10, but I have a slight pet peev about pre-ordering games before an official release date is announced. I keep looking, almost daily, but nothing. Once a release date is annouced, I will pre order that day.

I don't think they can be definite yet . . . it seems to depend on how beta testing is going at this point. Very little is worse than announcing a release date, then missing it. Let's have patience.

I have been informed that the release date is usually revealed about two weeks prior to release. My own memory was that it was closer to one week prior.

And until then.. there is the Statement of Marcus from 10 Days ago.. so let´s wait a few days on.

The game is currently in beta testing, and we're putting the finishing touches on the remaining new features. After that, it's bug fixing time. If all goes well, then we're looking at an early May release. However, things may happen which result in a delay. For example, I was ill for two weeks of the past 4 weeks, so if something like this happens again, the release will be pushed back of course.

We'll keep you posted

Cheers,
Markus

I too have the pet peeve of shelling out money now, only to get the item many weeks later. I think that is his point. I am the same way. It's like buying a car, and not driving it for 3 months, HELLO, you want to drive it as soon as you give them money. So with having said that, guess I'll be paying $39.99

When a release date is announced, it may coincide with the elimination of the pre-order discount. . . . just saying.

I have to say, when I first read the OOTP10 announcement I was not that excited. However, having now seen the latest newsletter screenies, I'm getting there.

Funny about the small things. Somebody recently mentioned the return of sliders (don't know what else to call them). You know, the color bars that show visually what a rating of 2 out of 10 means at a glance. For some reason, that really perks up the display.

The new skin . . . looks great in the game (not so much in this forum, however).

Widgies . . . I mean, widgets . . . another thing that I perhaps dismissed when described just in writing but the newletter pictorial has stirred my imagination. The things I could do now with my game screen . . .

No, I'm not easily distracted by bright, shiny objects. I do like the new makeup on the old girl, though.

No, I just don't want to purchase a game without knowing if and when it will come out. I am willing to forgo the discount for a solid release date. I am sorry that my choice upsets you.

Ah, I think he's just trying to be funny because there was another long discussion along those lines in a previous thread (or two). You have a valid point; I have long since paid off my credit card balance that contained the charge. However, I cut OOTP some slack based on their track record of bringing me [ultimately, usually] a fine product that I enjoy.

Well, you could look at it by way of probabilities.

Will it come out? This is the 10th version so he's come through several times in the past. I'd say the only reason it might not come out is if he gets into a very serious accident and/or unexpectedly drops dead and how likely is that? So that I'd peg at about 99% likely that it will come out.

Now will it come out in the next week? Eh, from what we've heard, I'd highly doubt it so 1% for that.

He said if all goes well they'll be looking at an early May release. So does that mean May 1st? No, I doubt it again, but maybe 10% for that.

Could it more likely mean by May 15th? Yeah, but I'd still be cautious and say 30%.

Once early May goes by and more people realize he said that, though, the pressure will be on to release so what about by May 30th? I'd say 60%.

Say something unexpected were to happen though and he just didn't want to release it before it was ready, what about late June? I'd say 90%.

So really, it's more just a matter of time and you can guess at the likelihood of the date. And even if he does set a firm release date it's still a matter of likelihoods. They'd be more certain as there'd be more pressure, but you still couldn't be 100% sure until it's on your computer.

Don't laugh. That nasty L/R ratings merge problem never was resolved in OOTP 2007/8. (Hence my "ultimately, usually" phrase above.)

What problem was that? I remember reading about something to do with L/R splits but forgot what it was.

I does not bother me and it makes me laugh. Which is the whole point. I hope you buy and enjoy.
