Mod Availability

I do have a question if someone can answer. I don't want to start a new thread for such a dumb question though. Are the mods that are out for various versions always available. Meaning if I buy 9 and plan to play it for a year or so, or longer hopefully before I buy the 11 or something even later than 11, will the mods that are currently created always be available for me?

I also askered earlier in the thread how fast mods come out for each version typically? I know it can vary to some degree, but since it seems like many here buy each years version you would have some idea of what timeline there is.

Thanks in advance. either way it is easy to see this game is well supported by the makers and the many fans of the game.

Generally, I think it's best to start a new thread whenever the question could easily illicit more than one answer, like yours, especially when you're not the starter of the current thread. Some thread starters may even throw a fit at what may seem like thread-jacking. I'll try to split the thread after I post this..

To quickly answer your 1st question: no, you cannot rely on mods being available for years. Yeah, some may be still available, but you never know when a mod site will disappear. If you find a mod that you think you may be interested in in the future, do yourself a favour and download and store it on your computer asap.

I don't know much about the Add-Ons Central thing which I'm guessing is hosted by OOTP. The answer for that could be different.

I think you may also be thinking that mods will be compatible with later versions and while that may be the case sometimes, it's not always. You never know how the game will change in future versions. There might be the case in which a past mod isn't compatible as it is, but with a little tweaking on your part it is.

As to your 2nd question my guess is you're more asking about rosters and I'm not the best to answer it because I don't use them, but IIRC it varies. I seem to remember them coming out soon after like a week, but then I seem to recall others taking months. With Markus putting in a ratings editor I think that should help roster makers considerably though.

If you're talking about mods in general, well, I think they just come out whenever. Logo makers will often release a logo within days or even hours of a request, but a 3rd party utility that no one has done anything like before might take months.

As to one of your responses I actually never considered that a mod for version 9 would work for version 10. I guess that was why I was asking when the new mods generally came out. I actually don't even know what all mods are even available actually, Was just asking in general terms because I have no idea what I would want beyond rosters I guess. But I have heard there are some very talented mod makers for this game so that did get my interest up a bit to check some out.

Still need to decide which game to buy, 10 or 9.
