Ratings Calculator

Hey Everyone,

I don't know if anyone would be interested in this or if it's already been done but I'm working on a ratings calculator. It allows you to enter stats and gives you the ratings that correspond to those stats. I'm doing this for a project I'm working on and thought I would share it. It's still in the early stages and it only does the batters ratings (BABIP, Avoid K's, Gap, Powe, Eye/Patience & Running Speed).

You can download it here Ratings Calculator

I haven't really tested it too much but it appears to be fairly accurate.

Known issues:
I think mainly due to converting the stats to 550AB and numbers being rounded off a few times Hits, Doubles and Triples may sometimes be off by one.

I didn't figure HBP into the OBP so its off a little though this doesn't affect the ratings.

The SLG is also off sometimes. I think it has something to do with the way I rounded it off. This also has no affect on the ratings.

TO Do List:

Add Pitchers Ratings

Being able to add players and ratings to a list so it can be saved, exported and printed

Import comma delimited files for batch calculations

Again I haven't really tested it much but I am continuing to work on it so let me know if you find any bugs or have any suggestions.

Enjoy,
Mike

Mike R, thanks a bunch for this. It helps me out tremendously creating and editing minor leaguers. Are you still working on one for pitchers?

I'm glad you find the program useful. It got put on the back burner for a little bit but I hope to have the pitchers finished soon.

Mike R,

Actually, when I ran a few more stats through your calculator, there seems to be a problem with the power rating. It jumps from 1 (16 homers in 550 AB) to 103 (17 homers in 550 AB). Just thought you may want to know (if you didn't already).

I'm curious as to how it calculates running speed based on these stats?

Really would have been nice to have this built into the game. Maybe OOTP 10.

I never understood why you have to figure out ratings when everything else is stat based.

Very nice contribution.

kurtalb1, Thanks for catching that bug. I fixed the problem and uploaded the fixed version to the same link as in the first post. If you find anything else that doesn't look right let me know.

rasnell, the gap rating determines the total number of doubles + triples. The running speed rating determines the ratio of doubles and triples. (the higher the rating the more triples and less doubles.)

I agree this should be built into the game.

Mike R, it seems to work fine now. Thanks for fixing it so quickly. Also, I figured you used triples for the running speed calculation. Have you thought about using runs scored (minus homeruns) in addition to triples for this? I'm just curious because guys who score a lot of runs are generally fast baserunners.

I actually made a spreadsheet in Excel that does ratings-stats conversions for pitchers (and hitters) about a year ago, though there is one tricky bit (Control influences HR rate, and Control and Movement influence K rate) that I never bothered to make perfect. I could dig it off a backup drive and post it at some point if it's of any interest. If you can find them, there are a few threads from a year or two ago where we hashed out all of the relevant formulas, if I recall correctly.

The Design Team actually proposed that this kind of ratings calculator be integrated in OOTP-9, and we wrote up a spec for it, but I think other features took priority. Wouldn't be surprised to see it built into v10, though I have no inside knowledge there.

injury log, I wouldn't mind taking a look at your spreadsheet. It would be VERY cool if they included these "calculators" in OOTP 10!

injury log, most of the formulas came from your posts on the forums. The just had to be reversed (from ratings=stats to stats=ratings) and the running rating to figure D/T ratio was trial and error and still isn't 100% correct but it's close.

I got the formulas from these threads:

Batting Formulas

Pitching Formulas

If your spreadheets include more details I'd like to see them.

Thanks
Mike

Very cool stuff, Mike. Small suggestion: Add a reset button at the bottom. Otherwise you have to manually delete all the boxes to run a new batch through. That button would just clear the whole setup to scratch again.

Nice work.

Glad to be of help. A very cool utility you have here, and it should be quite useful for what I'm planning roster-wise. Would be cool to work R/L splits in somehow, but I don't want to keep piling crap onto what you're trying to do Your work is appreciated.

Mike R, not to sound pushy, but I was just curious if you had an idea when you might finish the pitching calculator? Thanks again for all of your hard work!

I have updated the Ratings Calculator to include pitcher ratings. I was having trouble until I read the post about the ratings editor included in OOTP10. It only required BFP, HRA, BB, K and HBP to be entered. Then it all fell into place.

Control primarily affects BB. Movement Affects HRA with a slight adjustment from the Control Rating. Stuff affects K with a slight adjustment from both Control and Movement.

I haven't tested it extensively but it seems to work ok.

I didn't include GB%. This will affect HA. In a previous post 'injury log' stated that the ML average for this is 54. You can adjust this in OOTP however you like.

You can get the updated version of the Ratings Calculator here.

Enjoy,
Mike
