I agree. Changing from multiple scouts to a single head scout was the best and worst change made. The evaluation curve creates a ton of 70+ players and a ton of 20's, there should be a lot more in the middle. There is a huge variation in the 70+'s, and some of the the 20's are quite good. This combination really hurts the draft. If you play with Low or Very Low scouting accuracy, things get very rough without multiple scouting reports. It screams out for some type of scouting confidence score or settings for the OSA ratings. There needs to better way to tell between a true top notch prospect and someone your scout views as a sleeper.
I'd love to see the pitching development model re-worked. The SP/RP/CL concept is broken. First, it's not realistic. Second, the ratings are off and easy to manipulate. Current flaw aside, what I'd like to see if pitch ratings. It's rare that a pitcher is drafted who can't start. Relievers are typically pitchers who aren't good enough to start or who's third and/or fourth pitches never develop to major league quality. Put these types of issues together, and you have to play with 'house rules' to keep the game semi-competitive. Usually even those break down. |

Oh there's so many things I'd love to see revamped: pitching, injuries, financials, etc.
However, right at this moment, I think I'd have to choose what some have been asking for for quite awhile in more separated (, but more associable) leagues where you can tweak settings for each league not just the parent league and have those settings be for all sub and children leagues. Still, I'm very curious to see if more of LGO's playoff options proposal makes it in. Quote:

I would love some relevant defensive statistics in OOTP. Right now, there is nothing there to measure defensive contribution in a tangible way (ie, in terms of runs)

GOD YES. Just completely incorporate Getch's draft utility and call it done.

The AI's player evaluation affects everything in the game from lineup/roster selection, to trades, to how salaries are distributed, to how minor league rosters are set and how players develop(ie: effects of AI decisions). Basically almost everything the AI does is based off of how it evaluates players. So if I was forced to choose one thing, that would be it (despite all the other things I really want like better history, playoff byes, graphics, improved feeder leagues... the list goes on)

You beat me to it!
Thank you. Add in some rare plays like pstrickert has recommended... George Brett Pine Tar Incident, Fred Merkle boner, Player not knowing how many outs there are... like the Red Sox outfielder who caught a fly thinking it was two outs and tossed the ball to a fan in right field... fans interfering with the ball... Sosa corking a bat...etc. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-13-2009 at 06:56 PM. |

I love Getch's, but I wouldn't quite call it done after fully incorporating it. I'd want an automatic computer pick after a team's clock runs out (instead of needing an admin's input) and I'd want email fields associated with all managers so the game could send a draft update reminder email to the next few up.

Input stats, get ratings!
I would pay $40 for OOTP9 with this feature. If you want me to propose exactly how it would work ingame, I will!

Off the top of my head, in order:
1) the return of IRS% 2) an AI color commentary in pbp, along with pre-season predictions by teams and divisions along with assessments available at any time during the year, moving the strengths by team and/or position reports into a more personalized scouting report. 3) Bobble's mood icons become the default for morale representation. 4) Add the manager's name to the team's history page so it's clear who managed when while looking at the team performances during that period.

The licensing of an outdated engine (High Heat, MVP) for use with play-by-play graphics.
More realistically, though, the suggestion for customizable game screens sounds fantastic. Graphs, Win Probability Added, and more to do on a day-by-day basis are also up there on the list. I know I cheated by listing 5 things. Shhh. |

I'd love for there to be a manager that you hire and fire, I like being the GM, I'm not much of a strategy setting, line up setting, rotation setting guy. I'd like to have "influence" but the manager gets his say, and I can hire and fire him etc.

Markus knows by now we have no concept of self-restraint! Who can help it?!

Fix the injury system so it's 100% customizable by editing the injury.txt file. Frequency, length of injuries, etc.

Revamp the injury model. This affects everyone who uses OOTP, no matter how they play. Get rid of SEIs, and let injuries.txt govern injury duration. Add a frequency field to injuries.txt, so hamstring strains can be more common than inguinal hernias. Fix the injury/ratings correspondence so it matches real life (drastically tone down the ratings hits). Make the injury body part code more sophisticated so that shoulder injuries can lower a pitcher's Stuff, while elbow injuries lower a pitcher's Control, as in real life. Etc.
That's a big one for me, but there are others- velocity, repertoire, and the quality of pitches should matter in the pitching model, and should influence who starts, who relieves. The Trade AI should be bug tested like mad, and should be made hyper realistic, so that solo play is challenging. The variation in real life player performance should be analyzed so that OOTP can match up - we have the right trend lines, but I'm not convinced we have the right number of flameouts, or single year spikes, or late career surges. |

Online SimLeagues
Start moving online play in the direction that WhatIfSports.com uses. OOTP should host leagues and the home version of OOTP should interact with the online hosting. OOTP would blow WhatIf out of the water if you could pull it off!
