The Quotes while loading!

I must say, the baseball quotes inbetween different functions are just fantastic. And, there's more than just a few of them. Really helps remind you how great baseball is!

There isn't a thread of them somewhere, is there?

You can add stuff to them, there's a file called "hints.txt", just add any new ones to the end. I added the fact that more men have orbited the moon than have pitched a perfect game in MLB (24-17)

I can't think of any sport that has so many quotes attributed to it. However, there is one error. The quote "Say it ain't so, Joe. Say it ain't so" is actually a misquote. The kid said something similar to that, but a sports writer changed it to make it sound more memorable. I learned this bit from Ken Burns "Baseball".

You'd be surprised about how many quotes have been altered over the years by writers to make them more memorable. Reading some of these old news articles makes me laugh sometimes. They'll have this hayseed 5th grade dropout with a wicked fastball sounding like he graduated from Yale. All the stuttering, stammering, contradictions, profanity, all that stuff edited from the historical record.

LOL, funny thing just today I found a quote from a guy I used to love as a very young man. I watched the Senators leave (twice ), but the last time they had a monster of a man named Frank Howard, known as "Hondo," who launched some of the most massive shots these old eyes saw at RFK Stadium (before it was called RFK, LOL) in DC. He was my favorite of those last Senators, and I found a quote from him just today, and it's now going to be in my sig.

Obvious Caroline Kennedy reference! Shame on you, Raidergoo; that stuff's supposed to be restricted to the offtopic political threads.

Anybody know who is in charge of the hints file that gets released with the game? I'd like to make sure the link to the IOLD gets updated (I cringe every time I see it with the old obsolete address).

It might also be nice to get mentions in it telling people to check out the boards here and even point out some specific boards like the newbie board, dynasty reports, etc.

No one liked hearing about Barack W. Obama last summer, so I've moved on.

I did not have Caroline Kennedy in mind. I was thinking about Gookie Dawkins. It was physically painful to listen to this man be interviewed by Joe Nuxhall.

I can see how you could confuse Gookie and Caroline. They are very similar people.

There are still areas of the game in which those hints do not stay on the screen long enough to merit showing them. Minor issue, but one we should make sure gets a look, time permitting.

It's W. You'd have to read 600 Off Topic posts to grok it.

I've moved onto developing prediction schemes based on OOTP stats for pitchers.
