Gauging Interest: League I want to create... with agents

It's long been a league I've wanted to create, but the opportunity just has not yet presented itself.

I'm curious about the interest from others as to whether they'd want to take part as a GM or potentially as a co-creator/founder/commish of the following league (and I'm sure someone has done this before):

A league with 2-3 "agents" who serve as the agents for the players in the game. If a GM wants to re-sign a guy to an extension, you have to talk to his agent. If a player has a no-trade clause, you have to talk to his agent about trading him. That sort of thing.

I think it'd add a really interesting dynamic to everything. Some players would favor a hometown club (i.e. Paul Molitor going to Minnesota at the end of his career, Wade Boggs and Fred McGriff to Tampa at the end of their careers, Roger Clemens going to Houston, etc.), others would go for the money or length of the deal, and others would go for the chance to win something (Curt Schilling to the Red Sox, Ray Bourque's orchestrated trade to the Avalanche, etc.).

The agent would field offers and negotiate deals with clubs while perhaps even contacting some clubs to see if there's a spot for a given player on their roster.

While I have some abilities with designing a Web site through programs where I don't need to use much or any HTML, I'm not a technical guru by any means. Also, for this type of league, it'd take more than just one guy to run the league. I'd need help from another "agent" or two, and/or a commish who would run all or the majority of the sims.

Any thoughts, feedback, suggestions, etc.?

I've been thinking about this for a long time. It's just VERY hard to get together without a good core of folks. And it'd be hard to maintain, because really if one or two guys go away, you're basically screwed.

I do think it'd be a neat system, but it'd have to be simplified. I've considered ideas like just having someone serve as the "agent" for all of the 5-star players, 4-star players and so forth or having a pool of guys who serve as agents or effectively arbitrators and having a set of rules in place that don't screw either group too much.

Or you could have a guy who is the players association rep or whatever, too.

I dunno. I think the push-pull dynamic of a real financial ecosystem would be very interesting, but you'd need to have the right sort of folks involved to pull it off and a lot of the problem would be overcompensating for OOTP's flaws.

You would need 2-3 good folks at the core, but I think that would certainly be doable.

There are a number of options on how the agent system is set up, and the rest would be a fairly straight-forward OOTP league.

You'd need a good commish and a couple good agents; depending on if its an owner/commish or not, the commish could act as an agent for some players as well.

But that's the trick, I think. Finding said people...isn't really as simple as it ought to be, y'know? But that said, if you manage to..that'd be cool. It's just a concept that's been on tap for a while and no one can seem to execute, because you need the perfect storm -- dedicated people, experienced commish and a committment to bring it all together at at the right time.

Well, I suppose one big question would be whether you would be part of that perfect storm? If so, the storm grows in power and may make some progress. If not, it continues to whirl in place looking to gain steam.

I missed this thread the first go around, but this is an idea I always had on the back burner as well. I'd be down to help out or at least be a member of the league when it comes together.

The Moneyball Union does this: the Money Ball Union

And I did this with baseball mogul. I was commissioner/agent/team owner and handled all the players' contracts. Kept track of everything with spreadsheets. Never had a problem.

I could be interested.

Based on the expressed interest and a recent offer to help with the Web site type stuff, this looks as if it may get off the ground.

More details to come but if anyone has serious interest in serving as a player agent or a GM, please let me know.

I'd be interested in both, but would much prefer GM.

There's been strong interest and plans are in the works. I want to draft a solid constitution, get a good league file and then we'll hammer out the final details but this thing should happen soon.

Its in the works. More information will be available shortly. Working out a few kinks and making sure everything is running 100% from top to bottom before I start advertising for folks to join. I don't like having people enlist before I'm ready to press play.

This sounds like a blast and I would definetly like to join this league, preferably as an agent. Let me know when you get stuff figured out.

Just as a bump of sorts. I've kind of put this on hold until OOTP 10 is out. If there's a lot of interest in doing a season or two in OOTP 9 before moving into OOTP 10, then I could be fairly easily swayed into pressing the play button.

Feedback welcomed.
