Any good fictional leagues alive?

Since the WHBL died without explanation, I have been searching for a solid fictional league. Sure, there have been some decent ideas out there but nothing that compares to the experience the WHBL provided. I have never run an online league so I am not in the position to take on that role, currently. However, I am asking all you experienced vets to be more creative in your leagues and make a truly unique experience. We have one of the best baseball simulators out there without any truly unique leagues to play in. I am just a bored out of work GM looking for a league to call home. Any of my fellow WHBL GMs know what I am refering to. I truly miss that league. What happened E?

Hey, how's it going it's Martin the former Washington GM. I'm with you I miss the WHBL so much. But just about a week or so I decided to join another league which is the Moneyball Union. It looks like an active and fun group of guys and a solid commish. It has a few distinct twists like a real player agent and a writing requirement, but it like the WHBL is talent only. Check it out, I have a feeling there will be at least a couple of openings. the Money Ball Union . If you know any other WHBL'ers out there feel free to pass it along. We could definitely always use more quality GM's that made the WHBL run as well as it did.

Maybe you can't get a hold of "E", but maybe someone else in the league had copies of the critical files that you could get a hold of to continue the league with a new commish. Did you guys use a mailing list? If so, maybe send out an email and ask. It'd be a shame to see it die out for good if there's still plenty of interest amongst most of the old members.

We have a couple of openings in the NPBL. Fictional teams, fictional players; 30-season history. Solid core of GMs.

Check out Suicide Squeeze. A very good fictional league, imo. We currently have 1 opening.

Good fictional leagues can indeed be hard to find, but when you hit on one it's a true joy to experience. In addition to the fine options listed above, I'd encourage you to take a look at the Planetary Extreme Baseball Alliance (PEBA). The owners in our 24-team league work tirelessly to build a believable fiction around the on-the-field action.

In a couple recent developments, for instance, we've seen a team draft a recently-deceased player and witnessed a suspension and fine levied for a clubhouse meltdown by a visiting manager (the suspension and fine were both actually enacted in-game). You can view some more choice selections of our owners' fictional output in this thread, or you can browse our news archive.

While we don't have any openings at the moment, we'd very much like to hear from people with a strong interest in fictional leagues. Participating in another fictional league is no barrier of entry; in fact I think it'd be great to see owners bring over some of what's happening in one of their fictional leagues to a new one. That kind of creative cross-pollination would be very exciting!

Dog Days is going great and there is a vacancy, Yancey. It started in game year 1953 and is now in 1979, so the league is about 6 years old.

Baseball Chronicle is a new league that I also enjoy because of its faster pace and concept. I don't think there is a vacancy, though.

That's funny. I only checked this thread to see if a WHBL'er posted in it. I had held out hope until the day the site went offline.

The fictional leagues that were posted here all look very good.

Heya Gary and Martin. Nice to see some familiars. Probably don't recognize this user name since I only recently started using it but this is Jundogg, the former WHBL Vancouver/ BC/ Santo Domingo franchise owner. (depends on what season you look back on hehe)

Some interesting leagues you guys have posted in here. I truly do miss the WHBL though. We had an excellent group of owners and I was really looking forward to it coming back. Now I am left to wonder how such a great league up and disappeared the way it did. I know Eric was pretty busy with what he had going on IRL but he also made it pretty clear he was going to carry the league on when things settled. I have recently noticed the site is no longer and have lost all hope of it coming back anytime. Truly sad...

What teams are currently available in this league Satchel? I am definitely looking to get back into a solid fictional league. All of the leagues posted in this thread look interesting for different reasons.

I am used to playing in talent only leagues and have ruined a prospect or two in doing so. haha I'll be looking into these leagues and trying to find a spot as GM of an available franchise.

Have you found a league yet Gary?

Michigan and Kansas. Michigan is an expansion team which is in its third or forth season, and it has a long way to go. The league has not been kind to the expansion teams, which is to be expected. Kansas is a rebuilding club which has a lot of good pieces in place, but most of them still very young.

Hardball Heroes is still looking to fill its 84 team league. 7 leagues, 12 owners each league.

It's a historical team, fictional players league. 1937 is the era we're in. We're drafting right now before we start the new season.

There are a lot of great fictional leagues out there. Unfortunately, it seems as if there's a good chunk of the online player base that is only interested in joining leagues with 20+ years of history or leagues where the only open team is the one they're about to fill. This means that newer leagues can really struggle to ever reach the "storied" levels that other leagues have.

I certainly recognize the advantages of joining a long-standing league - I belong to a league myself that is in its 23rd season currently. There's a certain sense of security knowing that the league has been alive and stable for so long. But to use my league as an example, I've had people tell me to get back in touch with them when we've been around a few more years.

This is the best league around if you ask me. I'm a guy that used to be in multiple leagues, but now, I'm only in this one -- I have been for a year -- its plenty. Very immersive.

I'm actually the host of our new podcast that features a 3-man panel each show --- We also like to have guests on, take call in's to our show (this will put you live on the air), and I sit on AIM during the show to accept feedback from our GM's.

Anyway, Dom linked you to league in the above post. Heres a link to the podcast. Free Online Radio - Internet Talk Radio | BlogTalkRadio

Hey Guys!
It's Mark...Bogota Scholars...official league dullard.
I hope everything is OK with Eric, he was cool. I think he just got tired of spending so much time, and not being able to win anything. He seemed to be increasingly upset that his team just wasn't making any progress...while my team, with me doing no work, making wild trades, and knowing almost nothing about OOTP was winning 90+ games a season with young players and a monster farm system.
I see 'Satchel' has a couple opennings in one of his leagues. I recently joined another of his leagues (Jamaica). If Satchel is involved in the league, it has to be good. You'll not find a nicer person, nor a better Commish. I think I'll check into the other league...it's hard for me to resist a Michigan team...and see if it looks like I'd have time to participate.
Nice to 'see' you guys again.

Nice to see all the WHBL'ers showing up in here. That was my first time using OOTP and got two crappy teams merged together so that was a little crazy. But yeah this is the Rio de Janiero GM.

I am currently in the guba(theguba.net),.

Michigan is now claimed, but the Kansas Storm franchise is still available.
