Download/CD
I noticed there's an option to pay extra for a backup CD of the game. If backup CDs are available why isn't it possible to just buy the game on a CD instead of having to download it? I ask this because I'm kind of out in the boondocks without a broadband connection and 230MB worth of content makes for a VERY long download using dial-up.
My other question would be if I wanted to order the CD with the download just to get a hard copy will the CD be a full version that I could install/use or does the backup CD only work if you have already downloaded OOTP 9? |

I don't think you have to download the game.
I'm pretty sure the CD is a full version. You'd need to hear from someone who has bought it, but I'd be very surprised if it wasn't. The only thing I'd wonder about is it the very latest patched version or is it of when it was first released. I don't know the answer, but someone else should.

So nobody knows for sure?
I think it's $12 extra to get the CD, which means I would basically be paying $52 for the game if you count the download too. That's about as high as retail games get with all the latest technological bells and whistles. It better be a pretty good game for that much.

You can order the CD and get the latest version. You will however, still require an elicense. Once you have your CD and have installed the game, licensing it online shouldn't be a problem even for a slow connection. Or, if you wish to play it on a stand-alone (no internet connection) you can also get an "offline" license.

How do I go about ordering just the CD and getting an elicense? The only option I saw to buy the CD was as a backup with the download.

As slow as it would be to download on a dial up connection it will still be faster than mail. Also if you have a friend close by that has broadband you could go there and download the install file to a cd and use it to install the game on your CPU. That may be the best option. The CD option when buying is just an add on option. You cannot buy the CD without first purchasing the game as a download. My opinion is you would be better off starting the download when you go to bed and letting it go all night or something like that if you cannot get a friend to help.

If you can hold out on the dial up, I suggest downloading it then backing up the download file to CD or flash drive. The $12 extra isnt worth it, IMO. And if you have never bought the game, $52 dollars is expensive. OOTP has come a long ways, Version 9 is very fast, if you have a crappy/slow computer with no ram in it, then the game will be slow. I personally have 6 gig of ram in my new computer, it runs very fast. On my XP machine is runs good, but for example version 6.0 was a crawl. Anyway, I hope you find a solution. You might beable to get a discount soon if you wait. I am not sure if the price will be coming down or not.

When the download speed leveled out it was at 13 hours. I have a feeling it might end up even longer. I'm not desperate to get the game so it's not a problem to wait a few days and get the CD in the mail. I'm more concerned with tying up my computer that long downloading it. I would probably use your suggestion and download it overnight but that still won't be enough time in one shot.
Does anyone know if you can resume the download right away or if you get a grace period to restart the process when there's a disconnect? |
