Upcoming Series
----------------- Chicago plays one game in New York, then takes a day off before starting a brief 3-day homestand against Cincinnati. Mexico City plays a huge 3 games in 2 days vs. the Royal Canadians, then wraps up a 9-game homestand with 4 against lowly Sydney. After playing 3 against Mexico, Canada travels to China to take on Sydney for 3. Paris goes to England to play 2 - perhaps London's last chance at gaining enough ground on the leader to take the shield - before coming back to the City of Lights for 3 games vs. Vienna. London, as mentioned, tackles Paris before wrapping up their season series vs. Moscow with 3 games behind the Iron Curtain. Berlin plays a couple teams with dashed hopes - 2 games in Rome, then 3 at home against Amsterdam. Brussels does the reverse of Berlin: 2 at home against Amsterdam followed by 3 in Rome. It marks the last time Amsterdam plays either club this season. A/A Standings --------------- Chicago 87-55 - Mexico City 84-58 3 Canada 81-58 4.5 European Standings --------------- Paris 83-57 - London 79-60 3.5 Berlin 79-61 4 Brussels 77-63 6 Game Results ---------------- Canada 6, Mexico City 4 Mexico City 6, Canada 5 (15 innings) Chicago 6, New York 5 (W: Cats Evans 16-8) Berlin 3, Rome 2 London 9, Paris 4 (W: Fat Freddie Turvill 20-11) Brussels 3, Amsterdam 0 (SO: Stuut 18-11) A/A Batting Race ------------------- Sato JPN .357 - DNP Diaz MEX .353 - DNP Bunch NY .352 - 3-5, 2B Martin AUT .349 - 1-3, 2 RBI European Batting Race --------------------- Lenyashin, USSR .353 - 1-5, R Perrell, UK .351 - 0-3, RBI Feveryear, UK .348 - DNP, and sooner or later he'll fall out of the race entirely Eckhardt, GER .343 - 2-4, breaking out of his slump in fine fashion Guilbert, FRA .342 - 1-2 Aehrenthal, AUS .340 - 0-4, and is now in a 1-11 slump of his own

The League of Nations leaders met in Geneva today to discuss world politics and, more importantly, baseball. On the list of discussion were the designated hitter, an idea which was scrapped after the American contingent screamed that this went against all sense of tradition and fair play, and a proposal to split each league into two divisions. This was introduced by First Lady Edith Wilson, acting as a go-between for President Woodrow Wilson while the US leader and general manager of the New York Giants recovers from a stroke.
On the American side of things, forming a division out of the Defenders, Giants, Reds, and Baseball Engineers only makes sense - it ensures that a team from the country that founded the game gets to play in the postseason. On the European side, the French and English representatives in particular evinced a lack of desire to form a strong rivalry with Germany and Austria, countries they'd just lost millions of countrymen to in the Great War. Expansion was briefly discussed but also tabled. A/A Standings ----------------- Chicago 88-57 - Mexico City 87-60 2 Royal Canadians 81-62 6 EU Standings ----------------- Paris 86-58 - Berlin 82-62 4 London 81-62 4.5 Brussels 80-64 6 Game Results ----------------- Mexico City 4, Sydney 2 (3-4, 3 RBIs for Aztec C Cris Ortiz) Sydney 6, Mexico City 2 Chicago 5, Cincinnati 4 (Defenders end their scoreless streak at 24 innings, Juan Zorros wins #25) Shanghai 3, Canada 2 (the Mounted Baseballists have now lost 5 straight... get out the brooms, Shanghai!) Paris 6, Vienna 4 London 3, Moscow 0 (SH: Fat Freddie Turvill (21-11)) Brussels 4, Rome 2 Amsterdam 11, Berlin 0 A/A Batting ------------------ H Sato, JPN .359 - 2-5, 2B E Diaz, MEX .353 - DNP D Bunch, NY .351 - 3-5 European Batting ------------------ S Lenyashin, USSR .354 - 1-2, 2 BB O Perrel, UK .351 - 2-3, 2 BB G Talboom, GRE .349 - 4-4, hit for the cycle!, 2 R, 4 RBI B Feveryear, UK - DNP, but by my count he has enough plate appearances to back into a title

Only 1 game on the 19th, between expansion teams Sydney and Rio de Janeiro.
3 series left for just about anybody. Chicago faces USA, has a final 3-game showdown vs. Mexico City, then faces the Rio de Janeiro Carnival at home. You'd think this would be an easy way to wrap things up, but Rio seems to have Chicago's number this year. It's going to be really hard for them to fall out of the playoffs. Mexico City bookends their series with Chicago with series against the same two other clubs: Rio and then the US Army. Canada, who needs to win just about everything to get back into the playoffs, faces Japan for 4, Cincinnati for 2, and then wraps up the season in Toronto against the 4th place New York Giants. Paris has just about clinched the European shield, but there's still a nice race left for the 2nd place slot. The Revolution figure to break out the champagne in their first series vs. Brussels, but if that doesn't happen they can knock out the Berlin Teutonic Knights directly in series number 2 before travelling to Rome for a final 3-game tune-up before the playoffs begin. It's interesting to note that the last weekend of the year features the #1 and #2 teams in each league doing battle. Berlin faces a couple of creampuffs outside of Paris: Moscow and Madrid. All those games are at home; it will be a monumental task for anybody to get past them. The defending champion London Monarchs do get 6 games against Amsterdam and 3 against Athens, so they aren't exactly facing contenders either. As for Brussels, they start with 3 against Paris, then face Madrid and Moscow. It'll mostly be a matter of not falling prey to the spoilers in Europe.
