I ran in troubleshooting 1 and trace mode, and when trying initialize facegen, the log says: Sun 20th Jul 07:36 error_msgbox fg_opengl_init_pbuffer - WGL_ARB_pbuffer extension was not found Sun 20th Jul 07:36 fg_opengl_init_pbuffer WGL_ARB_pbuffer extension was not found Sun 20th Jul 07:36 error_msgbox startup - Facegen disabled: fg_opengl_init() failed I suppose it's an opengl problem. Is it possible to get wine or ootp to run in software rendering to work around this problem? |

Has anyone had luck with OOTP9 running on Ubuntu Hardy Heron and laptop equipped with a Intel X3100 graphic card? Though this is not a nVidia card, but it seems this graphic card can display the Compiz desktop with the latest Linux updates. I am thinking about purchasing a laptop with this graphic card and installing Hardy Heron (and wine)
BTW, I already have OOTP 9 running on my desktop with a nVidia card. I haven't tested the FTP exports yet.

OOTP 9 and Hardy Heron
I've played about 3 hours under Wine on an Intel 600m laptop without a problem. The only issue is that I get an error message related to sound on start up - which is fine. I don't really care about the sound. Otherwise it seems to be running flawlessly. Looks like I can safely buy OOTP 9.
Now to do something about my pitiful team... |

Personally, I find that the sound adds a lot to the game; I really missed it in the previous few versions. |

I think this has to do with the fact that Wine doesn't really support PulseAudio, at least not properly. |

This has been my biggest hangup with OOTP under WINE.
Not to be a nag, but can you confirm that the export could be successfully read by the "commissioner" computer? In previous versions, there was some sort of error message on his end, but not on mine. I may experiment with this and post the results. Scott |

Got facegen working with ATI.
I tried to upgrade my wine to 1.1.0 to see if I can get facegen to work, but using wine 1.1.0, OOTP couldn't get past the spinning ball loading splash screen. It would crash and wine would give some GLX error in the console.
So, I downgraded my wine 0.9.61. I then changed my graphic drivers from the default X11 drivers to the ATI fglrx proprietary drivers. Then I put facegen to troubleshooting mode 2, and now facegen works. If anyone is having problems with ATI card, maybe you aren't using ATI fglrx proprietary drivers? Oh yeah, I've noticed OOTP runs at least 2x faster on Linux/Wine than on Windows XP using the exact same hardware. So, linux wins on game performance. Last edited by ttsec; 08-05-2008 at 12:31 PM. |
