So...a couple of media outlets here are reporting that the Sox have agreed to a 1-year deal with...

Esteban Loaiza!

I'll start printing the World Series Parade Route maps now!

As long as the Sox continue to underachieve in his view, he'll be there slinging f-bombs. The latest one made Kenny Williams feel like he was being thrown under the bus, though, so you have to wonder what will happen should the leash break.

Any other manager who had said the things Ozzie has said would be fired by now. but Ozzie is -- Ozzie. He'll always be borderline psycho, and he'll always use that to motivate his players.

Time to start slinging. Dotel giving up the back-to-back bombs in the 7th was bad enough, but getting leadoff doubles in both the 8th and 9th innings and stranding them at second? That's just depressing.

Pulling John Danks, who was cruising along and had only thrown 85 pitches in 6 innings, for a pinch hitter? And then you pinch hit with Juan Uribe? That's a pretty big WTF right there. Uribe's plate discipline isn't much better than most pitchers in the first place. Sure, he wound up getting a single (and stranded at second, naturally), but why pull a pitcher who is in total control of the game? Was it to get a righty-righty matchup with Dotel and Lee/Ramirez? Because that sure worked out well.

This Sox team is a huge tease. They'll mop the floor with a team for days on end and then suddenly become unable to cash in on prime scoring opportunities. Happens all the time. Bleh.

Still, even with the inconsistency, I'm enjoying this Sox team. I absolutely love Swisher and Quentin has been an amazing find. It helps that we've got a great record, too.

Heh, I see Crede made the All-Star team. Maybe that'll pump his trade value up enough so we can dump him and bring Fields back up.

That, and a World Series title, would make this season perfect.

This team has been so much fun to watch. I went to the game on Saturday and was given 1st row seats next to the Sox On-deck circle as a gift. It was the most amazing sports experience of my life. I made a sign that said "Hey AJ, I'll trade my wife for an autograph - I'm Not Kidding!!!". AJ was helping Floyd warm up between innings and he saw my sign and laughed. The next inning he came out and said, "Hey Buddy" and threw me a ball. I was so excited and kept screaming thank you. Then, I turned over the ball and there was his signature. I could not believe that he did that, it was so awesome. Ozzie also gave his lineup cards to our friends after the game. In the 7th inning, the ump stopped the game because dumb me was holding a sign over the wall. I was so scared I was going to be thrown out. I was just really excited and wasn't thinking clearly. He was a great ump and laughed about it. I still can't stop thinking about the game and all of the crazy stuff that happened. The best part about the whole game is that they won It has been a fun season and Saturday was unreal.

I kept expecting him to come over and take her She would have been so willing to go too We were joking last night that a limo was going to show up at the house and tell us that AJ was claiming his end of the deal.

I was thinking the same thing.

I'd love if we picked up a back of the rotation type starter, as I think we really need one.

Yep. The ineffective Jose is back again, just in time for the stretch run!

If it weren't for the fact that Adam Russell hasn't started a game since last year, I'd be up to giving him a #5 start or two. Maybe push Jose back to the 'pen for a couple weeks, which seemed to help him last year, and give DJ Carrasco a couple of starts, or bring up Lance Broadway and give him a couple of starts.

But, yeah, Contreras hasn't looked really good for a while now.

Yeah, he started his garbage again right about the Cubs series. I still don't understand why Ozzie lets him give up 7 runs. He should have been pulled, especially with the all-star break coming.

I'm starting to have 1977 flashbacks when Contrearas pitches. We had this pitcher johnson that would always spot the opposition 5 to 7 runs and we'd have to get off the floor and try to comeback everytime he pitched

I'm pretty sure that Richie Zisk now would be able to provide more consistent offense than Konerko.

I was at a '77 game in Comiskey that Bart johnson started against the yankees. Bart was his usual "let's spot them 6 or 7 self" Final score was 14 - 12 Yanks. Zisk made the final out with a warning track fly with two men on off of Sparky Lyle. Earlier in the game Zisk had hit a ball that puzzled me. I knew the ball was gone but it had me scratching my head for a while because I didn't see where in the upper deck it had landed. It took a while for it to dawn on me that the ball had left the yard. It was an awsome shot.

Bear, it is nice to have your perspective in this thread now, especially since you grew up in a different period then myself. I really love hearing about the history of the team from someone that actually experienced it.

My dad took me to see Floyd Robinson's big league debut game.

Dad was always such an optimist about Sox minor league prospects. "We'll be great next year with Marv Stahle taking over 2nd base full time."

Take the player's name and the position out and substitute guys like Bee Bee Richard, Buddy Bradford, Deacon Jones or some other soon to be a bust prospect and that was my dad. Read the Sporting News and the miner league stats religously. Dad just loved baseball. He'd drag me to Humbolt Park to watch sandlot games at every oppurtunity. He could watch two kids in a school yard play fast-ptich for hours because it was a ball game.

My sister became a Cub fan for the best of baseball reasons. She though Hal Jeffcoat had a nice name and he was cute. Dad and I would always bet her a malted milk on the outcome of the All Star Game each year. For a few year back then they had two all-star games.

Hey Goodsox great thread, I read the forum almost everyday and first time I noticed this one. I'm am big Sox fan myself, go to quite a few games, was at the Buehrle no-hitter game last year and this week purchased an authenticated autographed ball with no-hitter 4-18-07. I loved your AJ story great idea I hope AJ is treating our wife well. I am also working on a White Sox web site that I'm hoping to be the best anywhere. Have spent a ton of time on it and not even half done yet. Will be checking this thread often and since I starting going to games in the 60's hopefully I can add a little history here also.

I'll leave you with this

Name the only pitcher in Major League history who's last career victory was a no-hitter? Hint, he was a White Sox pitcher.

Would this be the ill-fated Francisco Barrios?
