Chicago White Sox 2008 Season Official Thread

Here's to a good year with plenty of positive surprises. I am crossing my fingers that the White Sox will be THAT team everyone is talking about in October that were never expected to make the playoffs. Let's keep these injuries down for our veterans and hope that the prospects live up to their potential (LOOKS at Brian Anderson). Go White Sox!!!!

Absolutely I am really excited about Ramirez and Swisher. I really like what Ramirez did in Spring Training and I hope he can continue that play in the regular Season. I've enjoyed watching Swisher play and I really like the chip on his shoulder. Hopefully he can wake up some of these guys that slept through last season.

OK, so that didn't go so well. I just turned on the game and see the wonderful score of 7-2 after 2. I feel like I just got punched in the balls.

Yeah, when you tune in and Nick Masset is pitching, you know things are bad.

Well, Thome just got them back in the game, but I am sure Masset will give it right back.

What a shame this turned out to be. The Sox tie it up and literally should have taken the lead 3 times if it weren't for horrible calls. I wouldn't be shocked to find out the umps were lifelong Indians fans. Granted, they still should not have given up 7 runs and then another 3, but those calls were just bad.

Well, after taking some time to cool off, here are my thoughts on today's game

The Bad
1. Mark Buehrle - Hopefully that was a fluke, but it is not good to see your "Ace" tagged for 7 runs in 1.2 innings.
2. Dotel - Still looking like this was a bad signing and he is not looking too good.
3. Juan "KKKKKKK" Uribe - Still swinging away at everything. They could have thrown a 20 foot high pitch and he would've swung. He should not be on this team anymore in any capacity. KW needs to just eat it and release him.
4. Umpires - Again, the Sox still gave up the runs and that is the ultimate reason they lost. However, this did not help.

The Good
1. Offense - The offense looked pretty darn good and even scored some runs without hitting a home run, which was nice.
2. Thome - The couple of homers were bombs and his other at-bats were solid.
3. Dye - He looked really comfortable at the plate and looked good.
4. Masset - I never thought I would say this, but Masset was outstanding. I am eating crow now for my earlier post.
5. The Bullpen - Everyone except Dotel looked good today.
6. Swisher - He looked to provide a really good spark today with his couple of hits.

I really think the good outweighed the bad. If anything, they showed a lot more fight in them than last year. Hope they can keep it up and bounce back with a win.

I think Swisher's going to wind up being my new favorite White Sox player not named Bobby Jenks.

You forgot to add Alexei Ramirez to the "bad". He looked ridiculously overmatched at the plate and very out of place in the field.

Absolutely. He looked like a skinny Juan Uribe swinging away at every pitch

Last Year...little too similar
But, on the plus side, this year's opening day, they managed to get back into the ball game and stay in the ballgame until the end

And in game 2, it took Cleveland far, far longer to put 7 runs on the board.

Ok, Ive watched the first two games, taping todays game for after work. My impressions so far:
  • Alexi Ramirez does not belong on a major league roster. AA at best. We need to give BA a shot. He had a really good spring and hasnt played at all yet. Also, why is Ramirez batting so high in the order?? Bat him 8th or 9th for crying out loud.
  • Mcdoofus!! O M G... I was having some serious flashbacks when he came on last night. First batter of '08? Yep, a walk. So freakin pissed.
  • I really like Crede, I do. But if we arent keeping him past this year, I think Fields should be on the roster AND be starting.
  • Why is Uribe still on the team?? Do we not have a better option than him?
  • I really like the lineups so far, except for Ramirez and Uribe in them. I certainly hope when Owens gets off the DL that he is NOT leadoff. I like Swisher in the leadoff spot and Cabrera 2nd. Best lineup Ive seen in years.
  • Masset and Vasquez looked fantastic. Except for one bad inning for Vasquez (the HBP, BB, BB inning) these two have been most impressive.
So far, we are 0-2. I can pinpoint it to: Buerhle getting shelled. Ramirez in the lineup, bad umps and a great outing by Carmona. Hope we can get at least one game of this series!
