Actually, that would be factored into the release date.

If its to arrive at GameStop on 6/18 (ship date: 6/17), then it would be on the shelves at 6/18.

Download is okay here - thank goodness for the torrent link

Looking forward to playing this. I do have to say it's astonishing that a software company would not make this game easier to download. I've been trying for a few hours to get the full download on my computer. I mean hosting is dirt cheap these days and there are companies who will work with a software company for added resources during a launch.

Have you tried the torrent? It's super fast.

If you don't know how to download torrents, download and install utorrent. The torrent links are in this thread. It's pretty easy to use, but if you still have trouble feel free to PM me.

I eventually got it and didn't mean to be harsh. It's just always been a pet peeve of mine with anything retail. I'm one of those that gets angry at a store when I'm trying to buy something and they have an hour long wait to get to the register.

Oh, I totally hear you on that. They dropped the ball on this, especially since we were discussing this days ahead of time and flat out told them what they could do to prevent this. They've been in the business for several years now, you'd think they'd have mirrors and torrents ready to go right at release not have people waiting getting angry and then scramble to cobble it together. Sure, it was only a few hours, but when you're told you can come and get something at a certain time and then you can't and you have to wait, I think it's perfectly understandable that some get upset.

If this was a retail store I would have walked out of the store after 5 minutes and probably never gone back. I can't stand being made to wait in line for anything, but this is a little different as when you're on the internet waiting there's probably a dozen other things you can probably do while waiting (I always seem to have a dozen or so things). Thankfully, I was busy much of the day and didn't end up even start downloading it until the torrent was up and working splendidly. My install ended up taking far longer than the download actually and now I'm somewhere that I can't even play it!

Let me start by saying that I don't have any probs whatsoever if I have to d/l the game a week after release. That said, apart from the mirrors and stuff, there are other ways to prevent what happened yesterday. For example, releasing the game in the morning, Markus time, so most of those not in the US get it. Then Americans would d/l it as they wake up without crowding the server in the hundreds at the same time. I believe there were around 700 customers on the boards the moment the game was released.

We will learn from it, next year we'll do better. At least I hope so. A part of the problem was that we worked on the game until yesterday and we had promised to release yesterday.

Yes, I'm sure, just as we did with OOTP 2006

We've just been late this year. But we're already eager to start working on OOTP10, which we'll do right now
And next year, we will better release it late before releasing without mirrors. Promised.

Your friends at Total Sports World had set up a mirror with permission from Steve that took some pressure off (we hope) last night.

As a second year Beta Team member, I request the following: Next year, please don't wait until after the 2 PM release to ask us for a mirror. This is something we would've been happy to setup and keep mum until the agreed release time. We have 750 Registered Users, and definitely 120 of them that play OOTP. We could handle the bandwidth if we did member-only downloads after calculations.

Now...how interested are you in helping me get the remaining TSW Members interested in OOTP? My people (Me) will call your people (Markus/Steve) shortly. We'll even have a cold one for ya.

Well, lesson learned then...and hopefully OOTP download rage has subsided everywhere now.

I was just getting around to installing this morning, and was amused to see the following in the EULA:

Quote:
OOTP Developments does not seek to exclude or limit its liability for any death or personal injury arising from its negligence.
I am comforted to know that, if I somehow manage to OOTP myself to death, Markus and Andreas will take full responsibility. I shall make sure my children know how to reach you.

I have trouble with the installation process: "decompression error"!

What could I do?

Thank you!

Good to hear, but you don't have to wait until next year. Markus has already said there will be a patch. It'd be great to see the lesson learned right away with it being released with mirrors and torrents right from the get go. Patches are usually much smaller too.

As for releasing it late over releasing it without mirrors, I seem to remember you guys did that once before (a patch probably) and IIRC most everybody was really pretty reasonable about it. That's much better than being told to go get it, but then you can't.

Did it really have to be that big by the way? 192MB? Holy cow! I thought OOTP8 was huge at 97MB (and it was compared to OOTP6's 24MB), but 192MB? What the heck did you guys put in it that makes it so bloody big, a Seinfeld episode? There must be stuff in there that could have been made an optional download like rosters or something that many will never use. I could see the argument that having to download multiple files might piss some people off, but the option of downloading a stripped down version would surely be appealing to others.

I have complained about the US $ / Euro pricing issue (which I think also needs looking at for next year) in another thread and have to agree the download problem was not good BUT personally having lost momentum of playing OOTP recently and having been with it since the very first version ( recent issues of OOTP I felt got very complex to use and slower to play) this version is WAY BETTER and am very pleased with the game so far and all that it offers

As regards release time next year I think maybe apart from having mirrors ready the launch time needs looking at to spread downloading as has already been mentioned here. If it were released say at 8am or 9am European time then European users would download followed by US users as they got up in their different time zones spreading out the hits on the servers a lot. Any other time of day has most OOTP users able to hit the download at the same time.
