Updated Cuban Cities

Here is an updated file for the Cuban cities. The original cities.txt had most of the cities drastically underpopulated. Also, I broke it down into municipalities like the Cuban government does. You will no longer have a ton of players from Havanna (it was mispelled anyway) as that is broken down as well, players will still be from Havana but will now come from different areas of the city. Cuba essentially has 15 regions, each with municipalities and that should be properly replicated here.

Tried to stay true to the Spanish spelling as much as possible. Population information is taken from recent census projections (2006 for most, 2005 for Villa Clara). This should help to diversify your Cuban leagues a bit.

I need help uploading the cities.txt file as even when i zip it up it is exceeding the upload limit right now

Here is the cities that I added:

1) What is your source for this?

2) Can you post your entire list for Cuba?

I can add this to Bugzilla and try to get it shipped with OOTP 9.

Populations are taken from the cuban census projections from the government in 2006, except for Villa Clara which only had info from 2005. I basically had to download a pdf file from each province and hunt for the info.

Here's the main Cuban site I used for the populations: Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas. Cuba

The latitudes and longitudes are from wikipedia.

As far as the complete list, this is it. It will replace every current city for Cuba. Every city has been updated, if it hasn't been replaced, so you will just need to delete all the other cities from Cuba and add these. I can also send you in what municipality each team in Cuba plays so they can have their accurate city info for the release.

Next step is updated weather info for each province, that's also in the province pdf's, so it should be easy enough. I just need to know what the rain % is based off of. Is it based on total rainfall, or # of days each month?

Also, since Isla de la Juventud does not have individual municipalities, I may add a few cities from there before the release, as of right now their is only info for the whole island.

It is based off of # days per month with rainfall.

Example:

June has 30 days, 10 of which have rain.

((10/30)/8)*100 = 4.16

Round to the nearest whole number, this case 4. There would be a 4% chance of rain during the game.

Have you used GMail, as it allows attachments up to 16-17 MB to be sent without cause for much concern?? And send it to someone who has good bandwidth so that he may host it on their site, perhaps.

OK, I get most of it, but why do you divide by 8?

That's a good idea. The forum has an upload limit and apparently the .zip file is too large for it. I guess I could split it in half as well, but i swore I have seen others upload their whole file as 1. Also, when I convert the file back from excel to a text file it gets a little screwy with foriegn characters. Any suggestions?

There are 8 three hour periods in a day, which is around the average game time for a major league game. Plus, it was how it was done in OOTP 6.

Well, you could try saving it as a .CSV file as OOTP can import from a comma-delimited format. However, importing it with special characters will cause OOTP to replace the special accented characters with a letter from the normal alphabet, usually z, such as in the case of Bayamón (PR), where the ó is replaced with a z, thereby calling the town Bayamzn.

Got it, thanks. Don't really have time this weekend but I'll get to work on the weather next week

Looking again at those pdf's, it appears they only have total rainfall and not days per month. Will have to do a little more searching on the subject. Anyone know of a good site with # of rainy days per month?

It's very hard to do, but you can make your own here:

That site is awesome. Very good info. I will concentrate on the cities that the teams are in initially so it can hopefully get released with OOTP9. I can expand to other Cuban cities later.

southside,

Now that we have multinational support for our leagues and teams, are you thinking about creating the Cuban provinces as individual nations, as each team is made up of players from that region?

southside,

Now that we have multinational support for our leagues and teams, are you thinking about creating the Cuban provinces as individual nations, as each team is made up of players from that region?
You sir, read my mind. Still got to get through the cuban weather first, but that's next on the agenda. Should be relatively simple. Would also be great if you could set the "foriegner" percentage by region. So if you were doing an All U.S. league, you could have players on teams from only Illinois, and another team only from Wisconsin. You could then run those leagues in larger universes instead of having to run them by themself.
