Does anyone use GoDaddy to host their league(s)? It is cheap, <$3.50 a month. It seems like it doesn't handle the tar.gz files very well (or at all).
I'd be interested to hear from anyone that has or does use GoDaddy as a host and how you get your files uploaded. Thanks. |

Never used godaddy - at the time I was host shopping their rep wasn't too good.
Check out IPower - Domain Names and Web Hosting by IPOWER Their lowest price plan is (I think) $4 per rmonth. You can upload files there either through their file manager or FTP. Not sure how your file extensions will react, though, since I don't use them myself.

I love GoDaddy
I do not have any trouble with tar.gz files I tried to support the OOTP guys by going with a couple of the companies offered here. One company sold out to a bigger company and my prices went through the roof. The other guy, I used twice (I gave the guy a second chance thining it could have been me), both times I was never even able to get up and running. I would never suggest this person to anyone. I love GoDaddy. It's cheap with tons of sapce and bandwidth (I was shut down with the first company I used on here for using up my share of bandwidth while building my site in my first month - I had to buy more bandwidth to get back up and running again) and you can call them 24 hours a day and get help. I really tried to support the local guys here, it just never worked out for me |

westhost.com is the best host I've ever had, timely, rarely an outage, customer service is top notch.
Ask me if any more questions.

mjwebhosting.com for about a year now at TSW. No complaints whatsoever. If you have interest, let me know and I'll point you to TSW's rep at the company.

The "Veil of Suspicion" as you put it is very funny. It's such a large Vail it took 2 months before someone even made a comment on my post. I never said they were bad. If you reread what I posted I said they didn't work out for me. Since you did ask I will answer your questions. The first guy sold his users to a larger company and that guy was not a OOTP user. The new company mainly hosted websites for medium sized businesses so they really didn't have a place or a web hosting program for smaller users like OOTP Leagues. It not anyone's fault, OOTP user's just didn't fit into their biz model. But, I still had to go thorugh the hasel of moving my web name to a new host and all that mess. As for the guy I would not recommend (if asked - I never posted and put his service down), I do not think he is on the OOTP boards any longer. If he was he would have already posted about his service in this thread. That guy flooded the boards any chance he got promoting his company. He had very good prices and he would setup your website with one of several templates he had made for OOTP leagues. He seemed very friendly and it also seemed that he would go above and beyond to help you out. Many leagues used his service and seemed to like the guy. I had no luck with the man. He lived in Japan and he would call you up or you would call him or meet online in a chat to setup your new service and website with him. Since he did live in Japan it wasn't always easy to sit down with the guy. Two different times I made arrangements to meet him, once at 5AM eastern (during the week) the other at 6AM eastern (on a Sat morn) and both times he didn't show and I never got an email from him saying he couldn't make it. With the hours I was working at the time I didn't have a lot of spare time so sleep was something I really loved to do when I could get it and this guy stood me up during prime sleeping time. Like I said, many people seemed to use him and like him. It just never worked out for me. I would not recommend this guy's service because I was stood up and was never able to get my website up and running. But, based on my experience I also would suggest that a OOTP user use a true company with 24 hour service (or at least known biz hours of operation) and not a one man show. Nothing against those guys trying to make a buck and I do like to support the little guy, but it just makes sense to me that I know there's someone there that I can call if the $hlT hits the fan @ anytime of the day. I hopes this helps lift the "Veil" Last edited by [WWBL]Batboy; 04-30-2008 at 01:35 AM. |

Just because there are no replies doesn't mean no one is reading. When I did a search for webhosts this thread was one of the first (maybe it was the first, I forget) that came up so if any threads were being read on the topic this would likely be one of them. Anyway, I just wanted to see if you could explain the problems you encountered and you did, so thanks. I'm sorry to hear you had a difficult time. Hopefully you got your money back.

I understand people are still reading the posts made in the past
I was simply stating that if my comments had amounted to a huge "Veil of Suspicion" over all the providers on the OOTP boards someone would have made a point to bring it up before you had. I'm sorry and never intended for a reader to walk away with that image I was happy to answer your questions and I do hope they helped you, and no, I never got a refund. I was happy just to walk away from the situation without the hassle of a recurring withdrawl from my account Go luck to you in your quest for hosting |

I'm using Godaddy.
I signed up for their hosting plan a few months ago, and just started actually setting up my website this week. The Mysql database setup went smoothly and easily. My only criticism is that their servers seem to be responding slowly sometimes. Not sure where the lag is coming from, or how bad it will be in the long run, but I'm not always seeing as quick a response as I'd like. |

I use GoDaddy for all my personal sites and stuff, and I don't really use them for the few times I ran a league. I do house my private league there, though, and it's just to catalogue the stats; not run any kind of front-end. I have zero complaints about GoDaddy, and I'll continue to use them for the forseeable future. I buy the deluxe service from them.
I used Fidel's AllSimBaseball.com for my SciFi league last year and he was above and beyond anything I might've hoped for in helping to design a league website and providing a service level that made 7 bucks a month seem like a total steal. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for help starting a new league. -- ZC

I use GoDaddy hosting service and I find their service to be outstanding. Everything is a whiz to setup, and the customer service was exceptional. I seriously feel like a nerd by raving about how great they were. But they offer GREAT pricing and GREAT service, how can you beat it? Bob Parsons might be pompous, but he's got a good company
