Dang, Gavin Floyd takes a no-no into the 8th in a 7-0 win over the Tigers.

End of the 6th right now and it's 11-0 White Sox. Grandslam by Konerko in the third and a grandslam by Crede in the 5th. Tigers really are having a hard time getting going this year and the injuries aren't helping any. They kind of remind me of what the Sox went through last year with not being able to hit their way out of a paper bag.
On the other side of things it is good to see offensively the Sox are light years ahead of where we were last year. To me the pitching staff is still a bit scary. They started off good last year and faded hopefully the same doesn't happen this year. |

Alexei Ramirez had one of his trademark gigantic swings - he hurt his back and hurt Suzuki on the backswing. They both stayed in the game, and Ramirez took the next pitch off the top of the wall for a double.

he was a nice rally killer in the 5th inning too. 1st & 3rd and stikes out in 3 pitches

That's what he does best. He's got talent, but really needs some time in the minors. He did a nice job of cutting down a runner (Emil Brown?) trying to stretch a single into a double in the first inning...

well, floyd pitched pretty well again yesterday. kinda sucks that poor pitching and defense let baltimore back in the game. I'm hoping they tee-off on Tampa tonight

So the Sox reactivated Jerry Owens today. And then optioned him to Charlotte.

I think Ramirez is still on the big club because he can play more positions than Owens. Otherwise, our only backup infielder would be Pablo Ozuna.

And the pitchers I was worried about continue to throw well...John Danks hasn't given up a run in 2 starts now (14 2/3 innings total) - take away his crappy start against the Twins, and he'd have a sub-1 ERA instead of the 3.04 ERA he's currently sporting. He's getting some run support this year - he didn't post his second win until the middle of May last year.
Gavin Floyd, meanwhile, is sporting a gaudy ERA of 1.40, and Contrears was looking really good for the inning or two I saw him pitching against Baltimore - seemed like he was hitting the strike zone and was freezing O's left and right. |

Indeed - if Jose Contreras is our "fifth starter" (regardless of his actual rotation spot), then the Sox are in pretty good shape.

I absolutely agree. They should cut their losses and bring up Wasserman.

Yeah, that'd be a perfect world, huh? Of course, that's not how the Sox do things. They're paying Dotel $11 million through next year, there's not a chance in hell that they'd just outright cut him. Heck, they kept Nick Masset on the roster over Wasserman just to keep him from declaring free agency, and he's even worse than Dotel.
