Casamayor Fight
anyone watch this? Casamayor dominated early then lost it midway through got knocked through the ropes and then rallied to win cathing his opponent with a solid punch to the jaw. Then the post fight interview the two interperters were jaw jacking with each other HBO's guy started it Casamayor didn't understand and his interperter jumped right in. But Michael what is with that gladitor headger coming into the ring???? I thought it was a good fight.

If Joyce Carol Oates is right and every boxing match tells a story, this one was about a young kid who fought well and then wasted it with a stupid move in the 10th. After the 4th and 6th, I was really rooting for Katsidis, but what do you do? Casamayor did what he had to.
Most amusing moment for me: Casamayor saying Katsidis wasn't much of a puncher. If he's not much of a puncher, you don't have much of a chin, my man.

Agree - Very good fight - Excellent fight for action and contrasting styles...... Casamayor when "on"....is one tough SOB.....One of the top guys over the past decade at 135-130... Each of his losses could have went the other way......
He would give Nate Campbell a boxing lesson.......Though I still think Diaz would have a very good shot at beating him....via Decision.... |

Casamayor feels about Campbell the same way Wlad feels about Sam Peters. He beat him convincingly once; why should he have to fight him again?

^ If he beats Nate again, he'd have all the LW belts. That & more $'s since he has 9 mouths to feed might make him want Nate again.

Another thing going through Casamayor's mind probably is Diego Corrales. He TKO'd Corrales in 2003, then fought him again... and lost. That's the point about Campbell. It's not that it wouldn't be a good fight, it's that Casamayor has nothing to gain from it.

A PacMan Vs Casamayor LW fight would definitely be interesting.......As I said, Casamayor is a hell of a boxer (who can and will fight dirty)...and will stand and trade as well......
I don't think PacMan will carry his power as well through LW (and certainly not JWW Vs ODLH or Hatton.....Both would stop PacMan inside 10 rounds)... Casamayor has one hell of a chin....and could certainly outbox PacMan....... I don't PacMan camp takes the risk Vs him.....(though they may feel his age is up there...and he is ripe for the taking....) Pac's speed would give Casamayor lots of trouble..... Katsidis.....can...and I belive will come back.....and win another world championship.... |

Joel does have something to gain, all the belts so Manny could not claim any LW title if Joel is holding all 4. |

Joel doesn't have all the belts .. I think he only has the WBO belt ... but he is the Ring Magazine champ.

I suppose they could go after David Diaz but I don't think many boxing people think he's really the champ @ LW. |

I don't believe Pac brings the same power up through 135 (and certainly not to JWW). Nate Campbell fought a great fight Vs Juan Diaz.....Simple as that. I doubt Campbell ever repeats that performance.....In the past when pushed Campbell didn't step up.....he lost....I would take Juan over him in a rematch......(that doesn't take away from the great fight and win Campbell produced by taking the LW title). A younger Joel Casamayor would have been very hard for Pac to beat (IMO). But Casamayor is getting older....(simple as that).... The risk / reward for Casamayor at this point only seems there if Casamayor IS the KING of the LWs..... (that is somewhat in debate now with Campbells win over Jaun). I don't know where Pac goes from here - Talk of fighting at JWW - Don't buy it - He losses to both Hatton and ODLH...witout a doubt in my mind (nor Roach's)..... So why do that fight when there is plenty of money to be made at LW and JLW..... PacMan will probably fight D. Diaz (first). Let Campbell and Casamayor fight.....and fight the winner of them...... That would be my plan if I ran his team......(and that gives him a legit excuse not to face JMM again to boot). |
