Exactly. It's little kid stuff. Sound in Mogul? Sure. Sound in OOTP? Pointless and stupid.

Or maybe we will wind up with an utterly inappropriate soundtrack like some other games stick us with. But no matter, instead of, say, fixing pitching or the draft and release problem once and for all, we're going to get sound.

Whoopee. Way to waste time and efoort.

That's the whole issue in a nutshell. Sound for OOTP is a costly mistake for us users because of opportunity cost, specifically all the fixes and outstanding user-generated suggestions that will not be implemented so that the resources that could have been devoted to them are devoted to unneeded, useless sound instead.

It's like watching my boss decide to that we need a new product line (that won't sell) and commit resources there when we have several other lines that do sell really well that need those same resources in order to be ravamped a bit and kept current with market needs; it just makes me want to throw something and run out the door screaming about stupid decisions.

I have never once played a historical league, nor do I want to, so therefore, using some of the logic in this forum, it is pointless and stupid.

Since I don't subscribe to that logic, I just simply don't use that feature and am respectful to those who do.

Sound, by comparison is such a small issue that I can't believe people are getting so worked up over it. You don't want sound? Fine, you should be able to most likely control that and turn it OFF. (this is just an assumption at this point)

The one thing people here have to come to grips with is that of Markus wants something added to HIS game, then he is simply going to do it.

BTW, this sound thing needs to be a poll. Then maybe everyone can vote their opinion once and we can be done with it. Its in the game now, no use whining about it.

Well, apparently some people wanted sound, and it was enough people that Markus went ahead and committed some resources to it.

You know what would be a good idea with sound? Have one of those nifty sports-music soundtracks playing throughout the game, even on, like, the financial screens. And have it gradually get lower and lower, so that people keep turning up their volume, and then put in a max-volume "Boo!" That would be a fun way to make people jump.

IIRC, There was a big push for sound by many in this community and I'm sure that has something to do with Markus implementing it. Sure it might go against your ideal resource usage plan for bettering this game, but many will be happy with sound. (obviously, mostly people who play out games)

Heck, there are plenty of other features that I love about this game that others could care less about too. but it is up to everyone's individual tastes.

C'mon, ctorg can vouch for the organ gig. He's a Mets fan, he probably remembers Jane Jarvis who played the organ at Shea from 1964 to 1979.

Having the stylings of Jane Jarvis in all the future OOTP editions would flat out rock! Her rendition of Mexican Hat Dance was absolutely a\/\/esome.

In fact, make it so we can plug our own avi (or whatever they're called) in.

Imagine FaceGen for sound!

Random thoughts:

All of this discussion about sound is just falling on deaf ears.

If Markus did decide to remove sound again after all of the comments, would it be 'hear today, gone tomorrow'?

If I'm playing OOTP in the forest and my laptop falls, will anyone hear it?

This forum is a great sounding board for gamer's complaints.

Will the AI be in control of the game sounds? If so, that's another bug that will never be fixed, just like the current AI bug.

Asking Markus to refrain from using valuable resources to put sound back in the game is like asking a porn star to refrain from using valuable resources to get her lipstick applied correctly. It's not exactly taking up a ton of time, and there are a few guys who actually pay attention to it.

If you were a delicious ballpark hot dog, would you eat yourself?

Yeah and that's another thing in addition to organ music. How about hot dogs? Why can't I set the prices on them? Or maybe sell Red Hots or Brats? Or maybe sell seats in an "all you can eat" section like the Pirates do? Talk about financials? THOSE WOULD BE FINANCIALS

Like the annoying five base hit bug that pops up occasionally or the lack of game interruptions due to kittens running on the field.

a modest proposal..

HAY YOU GUISE

sound is totally dumb!1! OOTP is a sooper serious baseball sim, and sound is for little kids. When I turned 18, I punctured my eardrums with an awl so that I wouldn't have to put up with stupid sound anymore.

You guys might not realize it, but sound completely ruins my OOTP playing experience, as my computer has no sound settings and my speakers are wired to be permanently on, and I live in a cave filled with angry rattlesnakes so the slightest unexpected sound could cost me my LIFE, for reals.

Many of you are also failing to take into account the fact that Markus/Markus/Mërrchuous is a mortal being, and that his finite lifespan means that there is a finite amount of development time that he can put into the game!! Because of this harsh reality, I suggest that he not only stop working on sound implementation, but also start taking all nutrients intravenously so that he doesn't waste OUR time eating, and also living in a special magical pyramid that will render him immortal. Additionally, I am also in the process of creating a time machine so that he can return to last month and reallocate the time he spent working on sound so that he can fix the TOTALLY BROKEN peanut concessions revenue system.

I hope all of you sound-lovers reading this have taken a serious look at yourselves.

I see what you're saying, I really do. But the thing is, you're arguing in favor of sound, thus automatically negating your entire argument.

I mean....sound!?

I'm anti-sound. I don't want anything to make any noise at all, ever.

While I will most likely not use the sound feature (I'll give it a whirl, though), I can see that it's something that needs to be there for the masses. Some of the problems with attracting new players is the game is too complicated or the learning curve is too high. Having sound in the game makes it less spreadsheet-like and, if done well, can make the game a little more friendly to new users.

Surely, then, car alarms should be at the top of your elimination list?

This made my reading the 15 pages of this thread strangely worthwhile.

A++ analogies are few and far between.

The game needs a mute button that only works when the wife or GF starts nagging about how much time we are wasting playing OOTP.
