Well, the first two weeks of the season so far haven't inspired much confidence in our chances of winning the division. Y'all smashed a playoff team and a team that isn't completely horrible. I had a second year team and an expansion team and am still down by 10 points. The way I see the division race going is us splitting our matches but with you outscoring my team in the rest of the matches and taking the title by 10 or so points. Our matches will be great times and I look forward to them as well but I don't think we can keep up with the points.

I would like to see them start now as well. I know that guys like Mike want to let their guys age some before starting the minors and I understand that but I don't think starting the minors now would hurt people that badly. If we start them next week then by the end of the season the minors would have 8 fights compared to 20 from the guys in the majors so the beginners in the majors will advance far faster then the minor guys regardless of when we start them.

End of the Season Draft Announcement

The UTBA will probably see the worst draft it has ever had at the end of this season but it will include a few gems.

I know this is an early announcement about the draft at the end of the season but I wanted to give everybody a heads up of what kind of draft to expect so you could start swapping draft picks if you feel the need before it's too late.

There will be only 50 to 60 new fighters added to the draft pool at the end of the season. This means not everybody will get to add 3 new faces to their roster as there are a total of 72 picks in the draft.

Other than what is listed below, all fighters added to the draft pool at the end of the season will have a rating of 8 or less.

Heavyweight: one (12 rated fighter)

Light heavyweight: one (12+ rated fighter)

Middleweight: one (11 rated fighter)

Welterweight: one (12+ rated fighter)

Lightweight: one (10 rated fighter)

Featherweight: one (12+ rated fighter)

Bantamweight: one (10 rated fighter)

Oakland Assassins @ Iceteaboxing - Week 2

It's been awhile since I've done this so let me shake the ring rust off and see if I can get it right.

The first day back on the job and I witnessed a good one. Tiger Flowers is proving to be the giant killer in the Middleweight division as he has twice defeated the great Mickey Walker in his career to win the MW crown only to turn around and lose it in his first defense. Today, Flowers managed to claim the MW crown once again making it the third time he has won the MW Championship by defeating the young champ Carlos Monzon. Three times might be a charm as Flowers successfully defended his new title in his second bout of the evening.

It looks like it will be a little slow for me at first getting the results posted. I didn't realize before how much record keeping I did. I must have been doing this stuff in my sleep before. Once I find the groove again........things should resume to normal speed around here.

I still plan on posting two more bouts tonight even if it takes me past my bed time and I'll get the remaining 3 up tomorrow as I have the day off and that should complete week 2.

Man, tough break on the loss KC. If only Cleveland had won a fight and Monzon had taken care of business you would have gotten a draw at least.

I think it's safe to say that by this point Flowers has wrapped up himself a HOF spot. 3 Time champ, wins over Mickey Walker, Ken Overlin, Jermain Taylor, Tony Zale, Carlos Monzon, Charles McCoy, Carmen Basilio, and Dick Tiger. Thats a hell of a career. First ballot HOFer easily I think.

I was expecting to lose by a bigger margin so I'm not too disappointed.

Somehow Frank Slavin lasted 13 rounds with Jackson. That result really sticks out, although maybe Jack was going easy on his fellow Aussie.

Ike needs to retire and go into hiding right now. How in the hell do you can KOed in one by Chris Byrd? Thats horrible and embarrassing, he should be barred from the league.

The title lineage has been updated. They can be found in the UTBA History Links thread (link is in my sig.) and the links are broken down by weight class.

I'll see everybody in about 12 hours to complete week 2.

Close one for Tommy and his gang. I thought they were going to pull off the upset but the middleweights saved the Beavers backside again.

For real and then throw in Byrd getting stopped by Quarry in his next bout and it all adds up to one strange series of HW bouts.

Nice comeback by Tommy there even though they fell just short. As long as Walker and McCoy are around the Beavers will pose people trouble.

Ahh...to bad. It would have been nice if we could have managed a win here.

A positive sign is that my BW's are second to none. They sent a message to former teammate Carruthers for sure. Good showing for Gatti also. He finnaly showed a pulse.

I had hoped for Abraham to perform better but the Beavers MW's are among the best there are. I'm also a bit disapointed in Sanders. I had hoped that he would have beaten Bobick.

No win yet but we are getting better and better. Congrats to Matt and his team.

Edit: I really enjoy the UTBA. The forum hasn't been the same at all without it. I'm glad you are back to run it Scot!

Thanks Tommy.
I'm really enjoying running the league again. Spending the past 5 days getting caught up on everything, I didn't realize how much I missed the UTBA and visiting with all of the owners. It feels good to have this league running again. May it never take another extended break.
