Would I have liked to see A-Rod sign an extension and stay with the Yankees? Of course assuming the extension was "realistic". Do I want to see them sign him to a 12 year contract at $30m per? Of course not. Now that he's a free agent, Boras will get stupid money for him from someone. I don't want that someone to be the Yankees.
They will miss his bat during the regular season, but I do believe they can compete without him. Especially if the youngins come through in the rotation. And, if Girardi handles the bullpen better than Torre did, that could also improve their chances. Bottom line, I'm sad to see him go. But, now that he's turned and left, I hope the door hits him on the way out.

That was the logic I was looking at until I realised it's not 36RBIs at 1B that are needed - it's 36 extra RBIs needed - I don't know how many the various 1Bers put up for the Yankees this season but it's going to be at least 40 I imagine, so you'd need a 76RBI 1B at least.

![]() Still, my general idea holds. You can make up for the loss of a 156 RBI man with two decent players, or one good one and one mediocre one, as long as other aspects of the team are maintained or enhanced. Such as, starting pitching. Working on that one. |

(For the record, only 12 players in the big leagues drove in more than 115 runs last season.)

A-Rod has a 1% chance of being a Cub.
I know, I know.. [obligatory]"So, you're telling me there's a chance."[/obligatory] Seriously, I'd love to take A-Rod's 177 OPS+ and put it in my lineup. And for those that say that Posada would be harder to replace. There is a reason the top 3B/SS on the market will receive a $30M+ per year contract, and Posada will earn something along the lines of $16M per year. That is all.

Posada's 2007 season will be very difficult to replace, even if it's 2008 Posada who's replacing it. The odds of him coming back with another season like that one seem pretty low.

Cashman: "Jorge, we are looking for a replacement for you next season." 2007 Posada: "How about me?" Cashman: "We considered you and would love to have you back but frankly, we don't think 2008 Posada can measure up to you." 2007 Posada: "I hate that future me. Why couldn't future me be as good as I?" |

It's time for the Yankees to sign Barry Bonds.

I was just listening to Mike and The Mad Dog on WFAN and they said.....and Boras is denying this.......that the talk around the league was that Boras was starting the bidding at 12 years / 400 million.....Thats insane. He'll be 44 by the time that contract would be up. Nobody is going to take that. Thats what the two blowhards here in NY were saying though. They also said so far the team that seems to be really salivating is the Angles. A couple of other teams were mentioned, but the only ones I remember for sure were Anaheim and San Francisco
