I don't mind college football or even college basketball. And I'll watch other pro sports, especially hockey. But unless it's my favourite teams playing, I have a hard time getting engrossed.

Here is my sports TV schedule for tonight:

Code:

Baseball     Boston at Colorado, if necessary (well, it's not)
Football     Green Bay at Denver (what am I rooting for here, the NFC?)
Hockey       Local Teams (who cares who is playing?)

I know it's an incredible burden for you guys to shoulder, but you have to know that this forum is my only reason for living right now.

Thats the beauty of baseball..its got a long offseason. That makes you jones for baseball so bad in the spring and makes you glad when it finally comes around again.

Nah, it's not just that. The other sports have even longer offseasons, don't they (maybe not basketball)?

Hockey, basketball and soccer/futbol all have short offseasons. NFL's offseason is similar to baseball's but given the hype these days about the NFL, they never shut up about itso it feels like a short offseason. Either way, I agree, baseball is great for being baseball

Typical season lengths, measured from first regular season game to last game of the league championship:

NHL: 8½ months
NBA: 8 months
MLB: 7 months
NFL: 5 months

I think a big part of it is that baseball's season matches the seasons of the year very well. It comes alive in spring, picks up heat in summer, dies off in autumn and lays low in winter. Because of that, the anticipation of the spring thaw lines up with the anticipation of baseball in a way that heightens the baseball anticipation. For me, anyway.

I sympathize completely. I really don't care about sports other than baseball. It's a peculiar sport and it caters to peculiar tastes.

the time between the final world series game until pitchers and catchers report is like 4 months... not that long a wait...and the nfl regular season is only 4 months long.
