This is the correct way to say it. This is the pronunciation used by people who have lived elsewhere and either now live in Worcester, or somewhere else.
WUSS-TAH
This is the incorrect way to say it. is the pronunciation used by most of the residents of the city and surrounding areas when they're putting down the city.
WAR-CHEST-ER
This is the incorrect way to say it. This is the pronunciation used by people from south of the Mason-Dixon line who have seen it in print. These are generally the people you hang up on when they call you, since they're telemarketers.
WAR-SES-TER
This is the incorrect way to say it. This is the other popular mis-pronunciation I hear often, this one I understand a little better, it sort-of looks like it should be said this way.
WOOSTER
This is the incorrect way to say it. This is how the name is spelled when someone outside of the region is trying to write down your address over the phone.
WORM-TOWN
This is how you pronounce the name, if you're a brain dead Boston D.J. or visiting college student. Of course the origin is a little more interesting and flattering than it's now corrupted meaning.
GRITTY OLD MILL TOWN
This is how you spell the name if you're the New York Times (as stated when discussing why Bruce Springsteen started one of his tours in the Centrum). Needless to say, we like to spell their name CRIME RIDDEN CESSPOOL.

I disagree with pretty much everything in this post, having grown up in Worcester. Sadly, I've lived in Connecticut the past 3 years and have lost most of my Worcester accent except when I get drunk. Wusstah is the closest to correct on that list. Anyone calling it wis-ter or woo-ster is sadly misinformed and is working on a severe beatin'. Among nicknames for the city, I've always preferred War-town. When I put an OOTP team in Worcester it's almost always the Bombardiers after the CBA team that came and quickly left in the mid-80s.

A vote for the Worcester Shires and they can be sponsored by A-1. One of the promotions can be Steak Night where everyone who attends gets a free steak with A-1 sauce. The club is owned by Kraft Foods.

I'm leaning towards the Browns. But I don't honestly know yet. I'm gonna play around with potential logos and then try to decide once I get colors I like.

This is one of my more difficult naming jobs. I want one I'll like so it'll stick.

I've narrowed it down to Brown Sox, Busters or Browns. I dunno what I want to go with yet. I think Browns sounds better because I'm 1) used to hearing it and Brown Sox rolls off the tongue worse because it's not something we hear. I think with the RL Red Sox tie, that Brown Sox works for where the team plays. Busters is a play off Buster Browns, a nickname of the team regardless of whatever of these I choose.

It'd depend on the rest of your league, IMO. If you already have a Sox club, then I'd go with just the Browns.

I went with Browns indeed. The fact that the name had been in the majors before helped me make the decision and of course, once I designed a uniform that I liked, it made it easier.
