Well, congrats to the Phillies. The NL East title was well deserved. They turned it on when they needed to and were able to take advantage of the Mets' prolonged struggles and .500 last two-thirds of the season. While as a Mets fan I was obviously rooting for the Phillies to lose today, I can't say the Phillies didn't earn it with their great play and nerve in the last few weeks of the season. Everyone had them dead and buried, but they pulled off the most unlikely September overtaking ever (or at least one of them).

In an odd twist, I now find that I'm compelled to root for the Phillies to win it all because at least that makes the Mets' loss be one to the team destined to win it all rather than to one knocked out of it early.

First time I've watched a game on my cell phone. That was awesome. First time they've done it since I was 16 years old, so this is special. Now we need to win the whole damn thing.

I love reading this article in the NY Post

Quote:
Yes, it's still the dog days of August and the Mets have to travel to beautiful Philadelphia tomorrow, but the NL East race is over. Though the Yankees are fighting for their playoff souls, the Mets are merrily on their way to another October.

This really wasn't much of a race. Despite all the Mets problems, despite the fact they left the door wide open in the division, the Phillies and Braves have not been able to step through the portal.

How about those Phils. I was at the Chargers game yesterday and I kept asking my buddy to check the score on his Blackberry. Now all I need is the Padres to win today so I can see the Phils here in San Diego in the playoffs. That would be sweet!

It's a little bit sick, but I found this little gem in a Mets blog on September 12th:

Quote:
And now, with the Phillies somehow pulling the rare feat of turning a triple play in a 12-0 loss, the Mets are seven games up on the Phillies. You know what Philly? Sweep the Mets again. Go ahead. It'll barely make a dent. And besides, you'll give it back the following week when Lincoln High is on the schedule.

Heh... He seems to be doing a pretty good job of destroying himself in his latest blog posts.

Damn...I'm pretty disappointed that the Pads lost on a bad call. No playoff games for me now.

Totally random stat that blows my mind:

Pat Burrell walked 114 times and K'd 120 times this year. Obviously not impressive compared to other players but...it's Pat friggen Burrell. Who would have guessed 5 years ago that he'd be getting close to walking more than he strikes out?

If Pat Burrell and Greg Luzinski had a footrace, who would win?

Pat Burrell has a higher career SB% than Jimmy Rollins!

But Luzinski stole 8 bases in a season once.

Pregame is on TBS Superstation. Grabbing a pint of ice cream and getting to work on setting up a new OOTP league while the TV drones.

I can't believe I haven't watched a Phillies postseason game since 10th grade.
