I'm not sure if I can stomach another. The last few years I've been pretty negative during the preseason and I always say that I'll wait til September before I get the least bit excited. Of course September rolls around and there they are in the thick of the playoff hunt only to be eliminated in the final days of the season.

Looks like an ugly season to me, unfortunately. That starting rotation is pretty mediocre looking to me unless Cole Hamels turns into a bonafide ace, and there's a huge dropoff after the top 4 hitters in that lineup. They need to get a legitimate third baseman and right fielder before they have a chance to contend -- I don't think Wes Helms or Shane Victorino are good answers.

When is the NL MVP 2006 ceremony for Albert Pujols? I'd like to Tivo that one.

I don't know, but you probably won't find it in a Philadelphia Phillies 2007 season thread. Why don't you check the half dozen or so threads about what a crybaby Pujols is? The answer might be in there.

Well, Pujols isn't a cry baby so I naturally assumed it was about some other Pujols. I figured that knowledgable Phillies fans such as yourself would have information on such a great player and feel confident that your team has a first basemen of almost equal quality and be able to tell me where I can find out about one of the greatest players of all time without resorting to name-calling.

Please accept my apology. I guess I will miss the acknowledgement of one of our greatest players ever to play the game.

Looks pretty good considering what the Gil Meche's of the world are getting.

That's giving up two years of arbitration. He most likely would have gotten around $12 million (combined) over those two years, so the Phillies essentially gave him a $14 million contract for 2009.

Ick.

Shouldn't this be the Ryan Howard 2007 thread?

The Phillies are going to suck this year. Yeah, they probably have the best infield in baseball (even with Wes Helms - christ, why did Wade let Rolen go) but their outfield is crap, their starting rotation is deep but not outstanding, and they don't really have a catcher.

As a lifelong Rangers fan, I have much empathy for the Phillies faithful.

dola,

Though, I must admit to a tinge of jealousy as 1/124 is still a better batting average than 0/46.

And I really don't understand why people are so dead-set on getting rid of him. He's an above-average left fielder whose contract isn't outlandishly high on a team with no depth in the outfield. I guess folks need a new whipping boy with Abreu gone.
