It don't matter how you get to the dance as long as you get to dance, with the right woman. Or something.

That said, sure, let's win the division if we can. I really want to say "Ten-peat" and mean it. I don't care if it rhymes or not!
Wild Card is for Wussies...

That was so unclutch. The Yankees already had the lead.

OK, so I was wrong. Five walks in five innings is not good, however. Yanks made some good defensive plays behind him, and some line drives hit on the nose went for outs. That's the difference so far.

Edit: Well, so much for Igawa's win, thanks to Ramirez and Bruney. No postseason roster spots for them, I would bet.

Dagrims, this is old stuff. But, your bringing that up again makes me think about just how old that discussion seems now.

Oh I understand, and agree actually. I was just voicing my desire for the Red Sox to be by far the most pathetic, losing team in all of pro sports.

Which would you rather have? A tired team that won the division or a rested team that won the wild card?? The division is a long shot at best and doesn't really buy us anything other than bragging rights. If losing the division helps us win in the post-season, I'll lose the division in a heart beat.

Sorry, I'd rather not win the WS then ROOT to get in as a WC. If there is a chance to win the division, and your not eliminated, you fight for it to the end. I think the WC should be removed from MLB. Perhaps 4 divisions per league would be better.

Its really disgusting how these teams down the stretch are settling for the WC and not fighting for the division. Their is prestige in winning a division, especially for a 10th season in a row. Saying well, we got the WC, so lets relax and just get in is insulting.

I personally, don't think highly of any of the MLB teams that have won the WS as a wild card and would have a harder time roooting for team who is in the post season because of it.

See, that's the thing with F********h. When his head is on straight, he blows people away. The pitching from windup may help in that regard; he may not be able to think while swinging his arms over his head. "Don't think, meat. Just pitch."

I have a vivid image of you walking to the mound and telling F*******h, "Don't think, meat. Just Pitch."

Yeah, but a transcript of the conversation would require a lot more asterisks, I think.

That's funny, because I just caught the headline on Yahoo about him being shut down until the playoffs, and I was just musing about whether he was worth the money and the roster spot that he cost. Not bad numbers for an average pitcher: 6-6, 4.18 ERA, 99 IP. But did we really expect "average" from him?

EDIT: Of course, a couple of clutch wins from him in the playoffs, and that question is moot.

I guess that is the price you have to pay, when you win thousands of WS.

Another extra inning game for the Yankees...

Maybe I should find some of my Clemens posts from earlier in the year

Um, what was Torre thinking, again...

We'll be all right. Although I still think Giambi is a complete waste at this point, and is only not a liability when he's sitting down at the end of the bench, and not in the game in any capacity.

Keeping Chamberlain in the pen would be a waste of a pitcher with three above average major league pitches (fastball, slider, curve) and a good changeup.

You don't put that in the bullpen. You use that over 200 innings in 30+ games.

Not necessarily their best games...but I know what 1998Yankees means.

I am sure there are tons of Non-Yankee-players out there who would be highly motivated whenever they play against teams like the Yankees, Red Sox. I think that is the way many of the athletes feel when they play against the so called better/strong teams.

The place would be packed with people.
If you play well against teams like the Yankees, you get more media attention. (Specially if you are a young player)
