Leagues with no minors

Will players develop properly if a league is created without any level of minor league?

Yes, players on the reserve roster develop. You just won't have any stats to check against their ratings.

You also have to be careful with huge reserve rosters. If a league has no minor league affiliates they're automatically allowed an (apparently) limitless reserve roster. Computer-controlled teams will hoard players on this reserve roster. A team might sign someone and put him on the reserve roster where he'll stay for years without playing a single game. It's almost like having a couple of minor league affiliates that never play games.

I tried this just for the fun of it, and the results were compleatly screwed up. Some AI teams had great players sitting on the bench the whole year getting just a few AB's.

In my experiment the reserve roster tops out at 150 players, but that's certainly more than enough room for hoarding...

According to the manual, the maximum number of players that can be on the reserve roster is 200. In my universe I originally had two unaffiliated leagues, one for AAA and one for Single-A. Part-way through my first season I noticed how those teams were hoarding players, so I affiliated the two league with each other and that essentially took care of the problem, although it wasn't an ideal solution since I would've preferred the two leagues remaining separate.

I have noticed (possibly with the last patch -- I can't be certain), that the combined league will still do some hoarding in the offseason and exceed the maximum number of players allowed on the roster. As far as I can tell, that doesn't happen in my primary league.

200!? That's absurd. We have the ability to simulate independent leagues with tiny finances, yet they're all able to keep hundreds of reserve players on hand, ready to be recalled on a moment's notice. Kinda defeats the whole point.

I used to try to play with reserve roster and no minors. But player hoaring is just too staggering. So I've resorted to using just one level of minors and that works a lot better. Especially if you restrict those rosters to 40-man, it rids you of the hoarding.

Let me ask a question on this:

I've converted over a 6.5 online league (no longer online now but I want to continue using the league franchises and history)... Anyway, when I imported over the database, no minor leagues were created but I have the reserve roster with all of my players.

Now - I want to add in the minor league levels. When I try to do this, all my reserve players disappear, which I don't want? So, can anyone tell me how to add my minor league affiliates without losing my reserve players?

Is it something simple that I'm missing? Thx.
