How in the world do you go about owning a team like the Phils own the Mets but never gain any ground on them???

The Cardinals are struggling, but that was a huge win.

1.5 back, 11 games to go. 8-3 would be nice, but I have a feeling 7-4 would be good enough.

It would be helpful if the Padres would also start losing. But I won't be picky. Complete and utter collapse by either the Mets or Padres I hope will be sufficient to get the Phillies into the postseason.

A quick breakdown of the top players this year based on WARP3. Jimmy Rollins should be a legitimate MVP candidate.

11.7 Jimmy Rollins
10.3 Chase Utley
10.0 Aaron Rowand
6.5 Shane Victorino
6.3 Ryan Howard
6.0 Cole Hamels
5.3 Pat Burrell

Rollins has had a great year. He came through on his part of things to pull off his prediction at the start of the year.

Too bad the pitching staff has been kinda stinky.

You know you've got sucky ass pitching when your team has THREE regulars having MVP quality seasons and you're still struggling to make the playoffs.

Ugh, that was just a frustrating loss, losing to the Adam Wainwright and a bunch of reserves. Two nights in a row of playing guys that weren't anywhere near a starting lineup at the beginning of the season. Very frustrating to lose tonight. Very disappointing. Lets go Pirates, keep the Padres close for us.

REALLY thought they were going to win when Utley had that 1 out triple in the 8th.

Losing to Adam Wainwright isn't that uncommon, he good, but I understand the frustration over the "reserves" part of the equation.

The baseball gods are long into overkill in showing their displeasure with the Phillies franchise. I'm looking forward to a Rangers/Phillies World Series in 2008 to right the cosmic scales.

Adam is a very good pitcher, but they left 6 on base in the final 3 innings.

Wow what a great turnaround tonight.

BACK to 1.5

Phillies win.

Marlins blow a 4-3 9th inning lead, fall behind 7-4, win 8-7 in 10.

Dan Uggla said it best: "We don't like them, I'm sure they still don't like us, but I bet they're rooting for us right now."

Knocking the Mets out would be outstanding.

I don't like the Marlins, I screamed when they lost the lead in the 9th, but by God, I love them right now!

Come on Florida, help the Phils get to a playoff series that I can remember!!

Fredi Gonzalez has been trying to sell them on the opportunity they have to still play games that matter (3 more with the Mets at home, then 3 with the Cubs at home, and then 3 in New York). He's promised to play the regulars and play all out to win.

If tonight's any indication, the players are buying in.

Hell, he pushed Dontrelle back a night just so he could face the Mets.

If the Mets dodge the bullet, you've still got the Padres in the crosshairs. "No shame in a wildcard berth," says the 2003 Marlins/2004 Red Sox.

It would help if the Padres started losing some games again though.

Or, failing that, the DBacks.

Screw the wildcard, I want them to tie the Mets for the division lead, forcing a tiebreaker. I want the game to be played in New York, and I want Jimmy Rollins to win the game on a steal of home in the 13th inning, after which he pulls an effigy of Mr Met out of the dugout and starts tearing it apart with his teeth.

Got to be Marlins fans and Rockies fans except when they play the Dodgers but regardless of what any of those teams do, it is just a matter taking care of business against WAshington and Atlanta.

Nice to see the Marlins up 3-0 already on Pedro.

I'm not that proud. I would happily settle for both San Diego and the Mets losing every one of their final week's worth of games and the Phils getting a spot in the playoffs. I almost feel sick that it looks like once again the Phils will finish with a better record than one of the division winners (better than Cards in 2006 and better than Padres in 2005) and be sitting at home yet again.
