The Phils should go balls out for somebody. They're a large market team with a nice new stadium and should start acting like it.

I'd certainly be happy if they signed him.

Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and Alex Rodriguez. That would be an infield all right.

Yeah and imagine the number of homers ARod would hit in Philly with what he is doing in a ball park now that is definitely not made for right handed power. We could see Bonds' records drop very quickly.

Someone should dig up win shares for those 4 for either 07 or 06 and see how they'd fare in James' ranking of the greatest infields (Ken Boyer comment, NHBBA). I'm guessing the $100,000 infield would be sat down pretty badly.

An infield of the 2006 versions of those 4 players would look like this, win share wise:
Howard 31 Utley 28 Rollins 26 Rodriguez 25 That's a total of 110 WS, which would be the 9th best infield of all time (behind the 75 Reds and ahead of the 46 Cardinals). The 1914 A's totalled 119, which is ridiculous. It's probably worth keeping in mind that A Rod had an off year tho, and if he put up an MVP-type 35 win share season with everyone else performing the same, they'd take the top spot.

I would think that Rodriguez would want to move back to SS.

Obviously, Manuel is trying to set up a dramatic ending here.

It's the 8th inning of a 1 run game. I THINK I'LL BRING IN JOSE MESA HERE.
My god.

Awesome. Pat Burrell homers. Instead of tying the game late or giving/padding the lead, it makes the score 9-10.
Maybe Manuel can bring in his second worst reliever for the 9th, so the Phillies have even less of a chance of pulling this one out.

Sakes alive, the Phils are going to "steal" this one from the Mets!
