Michael Grant "comeback"
Just read on fightnews that former world heavyweight title challenger Michael Grant is slated to face 7'0" punching bag Julius Long in a "battle of the giants" on August 23rd in West Virginia. This will be his second fight in less than two months, following a previous two year hiatus from the sport.
Who knows? Maybe Big Mike is considering another run at a heavyweight title. Time will tell...

Comeback would imply that he has been there before!

Michael Grant should be able to knock out Julius Long within the first three rounds but once he starts fighting upper level competition again, his china chin will be exposed.

By "comeback", I simply meant, "resuming one's career."
In all fairness, Michael Grant was a decent heavyweight. Good skills, but no chin. He did challenge THE heavyweight champion of the world at the time, Lennox Lewis, back in 2000, although he was crushed inside of two rounds while Lewis held and hit. I'm no Michael Grant fan, but he seems to be a decent guy, and he didn't attempt to take the "easy" way to a title by challenging a weaker belt holder the way that Roy Jones Jr. (vs John Ruiz) did, and Samuel Peter (vs Oleg Maskaev), is trying to do. I wish him all the best.

If it takes Grant more than 3 rounds to get rid of Long, he should rethink his "comeback" and retire for good. |

Another bad idea.

Hey, I like Julius Long. No, he's not all that good - a 7 footer who prefers not to stick you with his jab and instead fight inside, what's the point of that? - but come on, guys. He's Grant Long's brother. They should bring Mark Gastineau out of retirement and make a special belt for freaks of nature and people from other sports. Perhaps some boxing board could allow Pacman Jones to fight for it.

I didn't mind Michael Grant. He at least came to the ring is shape and tried hard. He just didn't have the durability of a champ.

And speaking of HW champs, there are no less than 15 guys parading around as "heavyweight champion of the world" right now. And yes, Mr. Grant would have an excellent shot to beat many of them. Here is a continuation of the list that myself and several others began some time back. Check it out! WBA/GBO/GBA - R. Chagaev WBC - O. Maskaev IBF/IBO/GBF/WBFed. - W. Klitschko WBO - S. Ibragimov WBF - A. Sosnowski IBC - T. Bonin NBA - Sh. Williams UBC - C. Ojeda WBB - A. Sidon WBE - R. Calloway TWBA - M. Wach WAA - G. Pukall WBCom. - J. Quinonez GBU - A. Varakin WBBureau - Sh. Briggs The following 8 organizations' "world" heavyweight championships are vacant: WBU IBA GBC IBU UBO UBA WTBF NABC With no less than 28 sanctioning organizations currently crowning "world" champions, I believe that it's safe to say that there has never been an easier time in history to be a "world" heavyweight titlist. Kind of makes you miss the days when you could hold the WBA and WBC belts and be "undisputed." The sad thing is, that, avid boxing fans are among the few who recognize the merits of one championship vs another. What a day in which we live...

I think that it would be fun for someone to actually pursue this. One fight, and it's a "world" title shot! I am actually really good friends with a "real" reigning world champion, who is also a part-time boxing trainer. Living in Tennessee, I'm certain that getting a license would be no problem. I'm currently tipping the scales at a fairly fit 230 lbs...
Look out Wlad! (LOL!) Actually, I'm eyeing WAA kingpin Gene Pukall. (14-11-2). Better yet, another fighter making their pro debut for one of the vacant titles who is as clueless as me. Wonder who has the best looking belt?
