Galactic Civilization II
Anybody playing this game or having any experience with it. I'm thinking of getting it as I always wanted to get a science fiction/ epic sort of game.
From what I've read it looks like a fun game. And the makers of the game offer as much help and patches as OOTP does! |

I have it. I haven't played it a lot as to be honest my video game impulse purchases don't always take into account my time available to play them.
However, the few hours (maybe 6) that I have given to the game have left me with a very favourable impression. |

I own it. I did a lot of research on those types of games, and determined that GalCiv 2 was the best. I've played about 10 games on it, and it's a lot of fun. The negotiating with the other civ leaders is interesting (and even funny sometimes!). And even though I didn't think I would agree with some reviewers, the thing I ended up really enjoying most was designing all of the ships in my fleet. You can build hundreds of different kinds, and save some as templates. Pretty cool.
![]() Sometimes I play a good civ, and am very diplomatic until someone attacks me. And I try to protect my friends from the baddies. Other times I act like Darth Vader and try to obliterate everyone, or (even better) keep someone alive but extract ransom money from them to build up my fortune. ![]() You'll have fun, trust me.

Make sure you get the version that includes the 'Dark Avatar' expansion. Adds a lot of great features.

Thanks so far. I ordered it and hope to start playing next week.
How long does one game take? |

Game length is dependant on your setup preferences, you can select the galaxy size, planet abundance, star abundance, number of opponents, victory conditions etc. You can pretty much determine how long or short you want the game by your selections.

I tried had Dark Avatar but went back to plain Gal Civ II. Reason being there's an horrendous bug where buildings disappear from your planet. I don't know if they ever fixed it.
The game is fun, but lacks focus IMO. It's certainly not perfect (and I do love the genre). |

I liked GalCiv and played it quite a bit and GalCiv II is basically the same game, for better or for worse. It has a few new features, but if you played the original to death like I did this version feels, well, played to death already. I'm not saying that it's not a great game, it just doesn't measure up to everybody's tastes is all.
