I just want to take a second to point out that I'm glad Jim Thome is a part of this fall from grace. Thanks for taking the money and running Jimbo.

Jim Thome is easily the best thing the Sox have going offensively. Injuries aside, the Sox's struggles aren't the result of his .976 OPS. The problem is that nobody is hitting around him.

The offense's inability to score has made the bullpen's weaknesses that much more glaring, ultimately.

And it appears that Konerko is over his slump - his average is up to .250, and he is hitting .299 with 5 home runs and a .936 OPS in June.

I'd be much happier if he were playing for my team. Having an amazing season.

WSCR radio is reporting Buehrle's extention as "a done deal", but there's no official word yet.

The really, really staggering part?

FOUR YEARS, FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS.

WTF is staggering about that length or total for a pitcher of Buehrle's quality?

Edit: Oh, I get it. You're staggered that it's such a deal.

Yeah, conventional wisdom was that Burls was gonna get a Zito-like contract. Instead, he may be taking a Lilly-like one.

He was beloved in Cleveland and gave it all up for money - and not even that much more money when you consider the difference in the two contracts he was considering. Now he's never finished better than 2nd and never made the playoffs while both of his former teams, Cleveland and Philly, are doing great. Plus if he didn't leave, who knows how much of a shot we would have given to Pronk.

Would he have made the playoffs with the Tribe had he stayed, we'll never know. However, there's something to be said for guys that show loyalty to the team that drafted and developed them rather than leaving for an extra year on your contract when you're already set for life financially

Well, apparently this been getting reported since the wee hours of the morning. I'm having a hard time concentrating on getting any work done waiting for an announcement one way or the other.

Man I hope so EJ!

#56 is my current favorite player on the team. Has been since #35 left.

I hope this is true. Garland, Buehrle, and Danks will be a nice 1-3 for a few years.

So...um...nothing to report about the Buehrle extention. There are conflicting reports. Basically, WSCR says the deal is imminent, everybody else says, "what are they talking about?"

I certainly hope WSCR wasn't yanking our chains or running with bad information - although I would like to think the Sox would have told WSCR to stop reporting the information had it been completely baseless - especially considering WSCR is the Sox flagship station.

In other Buehrle-related news, he performed quite the high-wire act last night, getting out of bases-loaded jams in the second and third and leaving 2 in scoring position in the fourth inning.

To top things off, the Sox actually came from behind, getting past a 3-run deficit (which, a few days ago, seemed like attempting to breach the walls of Troy) and then holding the lead.

Ironically, the pitcher they beat (Gary Glover) used to pitch for the Sox.

Mike MacDougal retired as many batters as he let get on base for a change, which is an improvement.

Well, the Trib reported this morning that Rick Hahn (main Sox contract guy) and Jeff Barry (Buehrle's agent) both flew to Tampa yesterday. There was even a quote from Guillen that he thinks a deal will be done before leaving Tampa. I think this is just about done, but nothing has been officially signed.

Apparently, Jeff Barry said the following in a phone interview yesterday:

Quote:
Nothing's going on ... I'm not sure where those reports are coming from.
So who knows.

Yeah, but I find it odd that the two of them would both go to Tampa. I think he is just acting like an agent and won't say anything until it is signed on the dotted line. Here is the article:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports...-sportstop-hed

Quote:
"I think everyone knows where my heart's at, where I want to stay and how badly I want to stay here," Buehrle said after the Sox mounted a late rally to help him earn a 5-3 win over Tampa Bay on Wednesday night and extend their winning streak to three games.

"If anyone has a question thinking I'm going to St. Louis after this season when I'm a free agent, if it gets to that point, they're wrong. I want to stay here and do everything I can to stay here."

Hahn was scheduled to meet with Jeff Berry, Buehrle's agent, who said earlier Wednesday he hadn't spoken with Sox officials and was surprised by reports a contract extension was imminent.

The Sox earn their first sweep since April, when they swept Kansas City. It's only their second sweep of the season, and the other one was only a 2-game series.

Granted, it's Tampa Bay, but anything to help build some confidence at this point.

In other news, Buehrle's contract situation is still up in the air, although the Tribune is reporting that a deal may be near, which is a lot more than they were admitting to a couple days ago.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune....home-headlines

The numbers are a bit higher than initially reported, but $56 million over 4 years is still quite a good price for Buehrle.

They better make this happen. We need something good to happen in '07 The team didn't look too bad over the last 4 games, but the number of strikeouts were alarming. Over 10 per game for 4 games in a row. However, they still managed to drive in runs and the bullpen was solid. The starting pitching was excellent except for a somewhat rough start by Danks.

It's charitable work -the Sox are doing everything in their power to combat hunger in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area.

1 run!

David Aardsma gave up almost as many hits in the 9th inning as the Sox got all game!

Less than 10 strikeouts!

Our Sox are back, boys!

Boo!

The Buehrle contract (4 years, 56 million) is apparently stalled and/or dead because of a no-trade clause.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. Get the deal done! He is signing for way below market value because he wants to stay with the team, yet KW refuses to add a no-trade clause to the deal. We have other guys we can deal if we need to. Not sure what KW is thinking here. Plus, Mark will hit the 10/5 rule in a couple years anyhow.

In other opinionated news...

I have a new least favorite player on the team. McDoofus has been replaced by Cintron. Seriously, why is this guy on the ML roster? He can't field, he can't hit and he can't even bunt. He has way too many starts for a guy with no skills.
