Yes, Rowand is having a great year for the Phils, no doubt. Would I rather have him in the outfield than Owens/Anderson/Mackowiak/Ozuna/Sweeney? Sure.
Is he the reason the Sox didn't make the playoffs last year? No, that was because the pitching fell apart in the second half. In current Sox news, Joe Crede has been placed on the DL due to his back troubles. Who else saw this coming when Crede refused that back surgery during the off-season? To fill the spot, Josh Fields has been called up from Charlotte. So at least we won't have to watch Alex Cintron flail away uselessly. Scott Podsednik will begin a rehab assignment tonight. I bet he'll be back on the DL with a groin injury by August 12. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/press_releas...tnered=rss_cws |

I would imagine that he didn't want to be viewed as "post-surgery damaged goods".
Oh, yeah: Crede may have back surgery, which would likely end his 2007 season, "and possibly his White Sox career", even though the Sox control his destiny through 2008 (which everybody seems to forget). His trade value may be at an all-time low, even lower than when he was struggling offensively when he first came up. Incidentally, Crede is the Sox' leading vote getter for the All-Star game. With the way this team has performed at the plate, I'm amazed that their own mothers would vote for the Sox this year, much less baseball fans. Personally, I'm glad to finally see if Josh Fields can live up to KW's hype ("future All-Star"), although I doubt it. So what happens now? All the talk/rumors/wishful thinking of getting anything of value in a trade for Crede goes from unrealistic to outright fantasy, unless the Sox keep him around for 2008 and he has a resurgence similar to what Magglio Ordoñez is having in Detroit. More likely, the Sox will simply non-tender him and he'll go on to have a resrucence similar to what Magglio Ordoñez is having in Detroit. Or Minnesota. Or New York. Or wherever somebody's willing to roll the dice. Last edited by eriqjaffe; 06-07-2007 at 09:13 AM. |

So no Sox play will be voted in to the all-star game. But who will be the one player that will make it in? Any guesses?
My guess would be either Jenks or Thome.

I'd have to go with Jenks. There really isn't anyone deserving, but I really doubt Thome gets it since the offense has been terrible and he is a DH. There just probably won't be room for him with all of the other hitters.

I bet it'll be Jenks, Garland or Buehrle.

Garland with a 4 and 3 record and Buehrle with a 2 and 3 record. I don't see it happening unless either one of them win the rest of their games this month.

True, but it's a shame for them that Leyland may penalize them for the offense & bullpen's shortcomings. Face it, if either player had any kind of run support or relief help, they'd probably both be more like 7-2 right now.

very very true. If this team could hit they would probably be 5 to 10 games over right now.

every other start he's been mediocre - a bunch of 6 inning starts with 3 or more earned runs and more hits than innings pitched his era has gone up every start since his no hitter with the exception of that Halladay game, but then went up even more after the Yanks trounced him. Garland on the other had has 4 wins and has 3 other games where he realistically could have expected to win - unfortunately they were all in April so Leyland's gonna have a good memory to consider that. Jenks is the only legitimate allstar this year for the Pale Hose IMO and for a 4th place team 3 games under .500, that's to be expected |

Really, what's the point? Ozzie may as well bring himself in to pitch. Once again, the bullpen let one get way, way out of control. Prinz and Bukvich sure as hell aren't the answer, unless the question is "name two guys who may make you miss MacDougal and Aardsma."

Yeah, one of them was Ozzie's son. And, apparently, a whole bunch of them are black, which ought to make Gary Sheffield happy.
