There are a few members here who drive me mad, but that would NEVER figure in on my decision to buy an SI product. You're missing out on the BEST verison of FOF to date, and I've played since FOF2. That's crazy Raidergoo! ![]() EDIT: And FWIW, JIMGA has been banned (In the penalty box) Last edited by MizzouRah; 04-30-2007 at 12:06 AM. |

I think I'm the only one in the league I run that's bought the game, but we'll be moving to it after this offseason. We've been running a 6.5 league for about 7 years now, and as the commish, I'm looking forward to an easier time of it with my commish duties.
I'm hoping we won't lose anyone (24 managers), but it's possible. Many folks are already nervous about the interface and the more complex game that 2007 is over 6.5, but after a day or two playing with it, I really was sold. My main concern is the league history import, but I think there may be a utility to help with that. (Though that may just be a player history tool, not sure.) So to summarize, I have bought it, and hopefully you'll get another 23 purchases in the coming weeks. I just hope my managers will all move with me. Also, I just realized tonight that there's no webcast of games in 2007 like there was in 6.5...why on earth would that be? That's actually a fairly serious feature loss, as we always like to run a game live in game 5s/7s in the playoffs each season. It's more than just one person. It is the tenor and tone of that board. It's a bit tough to read at work. Also, I grew tired of winning 50% of all the Super Bowls. I found FOF too easy because I could run rings around other teams due to salary cap management issues. FOF was the first text game I bought, sparkle grass and all. I played everyday for ages, and OOTP replaced it.

Really? Personally, I haven't bought the latest FOF because "32 teams works for football". I don't care if that guy was the moderator; I'd still buy FOF if it did what I wanted it to do. I mean, I wouldn't post over there, but I'd buy it.

I waited until today, but I had my reasons:
1. Interactivity. Whenever I switch to OOTP from SI's FM series, I'm accutely aware of the lack of coaching, media, training, owner and player interaction tools in OOTP. I consider OOTP's depth amazing, but the game isn't always interactive in the ways I expect and hope it to be. 2. The inability to track coach/scout and player development in graphical form. 3. The lack of manager awards. 4. The impossibility of tracking strange stat categories: longest hitting streak, most doubles in a game, most times stealing 3rd base, etc. 5. The interface. The buttons are fine, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to use the scroll bar this time around. I paid good money for my keyboard's arrow keys (using the poorest logic possible, I suppose it works out to $300 per arrow) and I like to use them. Keyboard shortcuts are nice, too. All complaints aside, OOTP is still the best baseball management game on the market. I wish Sega would throw more money into the development. [QUOTE=Marc Duffy;2143629]I'd be interested in hearing the reasons why you've not yet laid out for the game. |

Haven't read the whole thread, but I'll add my reasons.
The big thing is, I bought OOTP 2006 and found creating fictional worlds incredibly tedious and never really actually got to playing much. As my favorite way to play is fictional teams and players, taking a week to set up a game isn't fun, especially when a wrong setting could make the whole thing just not work. I know patches made it somewhat easier with templates and the like, but by that time I was burnt out. I downloaded the 2007 demo this weekend, and am hoping it sells me. So far, league creation does seem easier. Unfortunately, the demo doesn't let you sim multiple years, so I can't try my other favorite thing to do, which is set up leagues and sim a lot of years and follow the record books. |

3. would be kinda cool. Surprised it doesn't do that! 4. It really won't do that? Do you mean for the whole season or per player?

Raidergoo answered that for me rather well.

Perhaps so, but after this many versions, I'm still amazed at the game's complete lack of user customizability in terms of league sizes and alignments. Even Sierra's FPS Football Pro from many years ago let you choose between different league sizes when starting a league.

Been there. Tried to recreate Manhattan and surrounding area on like 16 maps and it crashed when I filled two - that was the end of it for me.

Since I'm lamenting unreasonably here (the game simply rocks, so I shouldn't complain too much), I also can't look at all hitting streaks over time. What's a player's second longest hitting streak? How many consecutive bases has he stolen successfully? Other bits of trivia--back-to-back homers, most consecutive put-outs, etc.--would be nice to have, too. If stats were a liquid, I just want to bathe in them. Obviously the game keeps track of the stats; I just wish there were easier ways to access them and compare them. |

This one you can do! You go to history, accomplishments, then click on the hitting streaks header. It will list them shortest to longest. Mine is 41 games in 1926.

I would much rather Markus, Jim, Gary, etc.. get the real world structure right than making so many things customizable.. but it's only MY opinion. |
