Add more "interesting facts" on the processing dialogue pop ups. I am getting sick of knowing that some guy knew Ty Cobb was going to bunt, or that Pete Rose swung at a pitch out.

This is a suggestion for any upcoming patch. Obviously there are some important things to be worked on, but I have something that bugs me a lot. On base hits with runners on base the play by play follows the hitter not the runner. For example:
Runner on first. " That will be off the wall Jackson is around first and heading for second, Landry advances to 3rd. That's a double for Jackson." The play should always lead with the runner. Example: That will be off the wall Landry will move to 3rd as Jackson heads to second with a stand up double. You watch the play by play with anticipation you always want to know where the lead runner is before anything else. It is true with any baseball call ever. I don't want to know that my guy got to second before I know that I scored a run. It doesn't seem like it would be difficult to change, but I don't know. I do know, that it is fundamental to the game of baseball that the play leads with the runners then ends with the batter. |

forgive me if i'm repeating someone else's post (i didn't read all 456 previous pages of this thread), but why in the heck can we not apply filters based on stats (e.g. show me only starters that have more than 500 IP, or all 1B with an OBP greater than .300)?
personally, i would love to see some major improvements in the "presentation" of all the wonderful statistics that this game generates, but this would be at the top of the list. |

sorry, but i just thought of something i would like to see more than my previous post. this is probably alot more difficult to implement, but i would seriously like to be able to create my own statistics. now, obviously i would be bound to what is already produced in the game, but how cool would it be to go into a screen that is setup kinda like the "create filter" screen where you can say that you would like to see a stat that takes a pitchers number of pitches and divide that by batters faced? or any combination of statistcs already tracked and the four major calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). just my penny's worth. great game and i can't stop playing it, but it's alot of work cutting and pasting this stuff into Excel just to do some basic (albeit technical) math.

Then don't waste the resources in the first place.

A dedicated mp3 music player on a PC takes up about 4 mb of RAM (I use JetAudio... I'd be surprised if Winamp uses much more). For a game that routinely uses 300 mb and up (I've seen it use 490mb), I don't think the added resources of adding sound would make even a marginal difference. I'm neither for nor against adding sound, because I'd just turn it off after a few games, but I do think it would add something for those that want it. Either way, the argument that it would take up resources is ridiculous at best.
Being a programmer myself, I've programmed a few games with a little bit of sound, and worrying about the extra resources for a few crowd cheers and baseball sound effects on a game like this is a joke. With the number of files this game works with, I think it could handle calling on 5 or 6 mp3 files every so often. And the folks that complain about sound taking up more hard drive space.... seriously? The game takes up 71 megs. Compare that to the 8 gigs that Command & Conquer 3 take up, and I don't think you have anything to complain about. True, you're downloading this game, and larger games are on CDs or DVDs... but the 71 megs took me a whole 2 minutes and 49 seconds to download. Even if the download doubles in size (which it wouldn't), that's almost 3 whole extra minutes of your life that will get wasted. If you have dial-up... seriously, get broadband already. Welcome to the 21st century. If not, just let it download over night. It's a one time ordeal. I just don't understand the dire desire for certain people to lobby against adding things to this game. What would it hurt to add sound? If you don't like it, just turn it off. And again, honestly, if you're worried about the sound in a game like this using up too many resources, I'm surprised your system will run this game at all and it might be time to invest in a memory upgrade. See newegg.com for details. |

They're my computer's resources to waste. Texas offers a fine suggestion here - have a checkbox. If you don't want to 'waste the resources' leave it unchecked. Simple. That way everyone gets what they want.
Personally, I'd like some sound. I have several thoughts that are beyond this thread's function (ie- an '07 patch.) I think it's great that the people who have to read opinions they don't agree with have the ability to add their own thoughts to the matter... |

How about 2007 rosters? That'd be the best feature bar none. It has been disappointing this year with OOTP 2007 because they game is amazing. I however just cannot connect with the fictional aspect of the game. This is not a knock on the roster creators - you guys are doing what you can. I just feel sad to have this great game on my computer and not playing it. I know - some will say go buy Mogul, but thats not the point. Its a major catch 22! SI cannot do the real roster thing and the creation of rosters is such a painstaking task that many find it impossible. I am grateful to no end to Erich and the community he has working on the set and when it is finally released I suppose the game will take on a new life for me. I guess this is my Sunday morning rant. I saw the icon on my desktop and felt bad about it. Please don't flame this post - it's just my opinion.
If you think about it, the fact that SI cannot do the rosters (mainly $$$ wise) shows how bad professional sports has gone greedy |

Sorry if this has been mentioned. The ability to set a cap on number of years in a contract. I.E, if you have a independant league with low financials, they cannot offer contracts that are longer than one year.

It's not about you. Let me quote Long Long name to you:
"the developers spending time on sound is less serious than spending time on aspects more directly linked to more vital aspects, like the engine or fixing bugs." You want the developer spending his time on sounds, or on bugfixes and patches? That's an easy choice for me.

In recent versions of the game, Markus chose not to include sound in the game. He considered other features more important. I (and others, I'm sure) respected his decision. Now that Markus has satisfied others by adding some of their favorite features to OOTP, he can devote time to adding sound to the next version. (During beta testing, in fact, Markus promised that sound would return in 2008.) Believe it or not, many people want sound as an option. Other, lesser games include basic audio. Why not OOTP? Again, it's not a matter of either/or, but both/and. |
