If You Could Have One New Feature . . . Part I

If you could pick one new feature for Markus to add as part of a patch for 2007, what would it be?

I call this "Part I," because if I get a handful of popular contenders, I may post Part II, which would be a poll.

Rules:
- no bug fixes
- no major changes (OK, so it's subjective, but no sound, no 2D animation, no major restructuring of how the game behaves, etc.)
- no tongue-in-cheek posts about "I just want X to work right," please - post constructively, or don't post at all

Of course, this thread in no way constitutes any kind of promise. Just trying to collect some ideas from the community.

More playoff options, like NHL or NBA style.

The ability to set statistical parameters for a custom award (kind of like how a custom filter works).

For example, the comeback player of the year award could be simulated using the parameters:

Rank - Position - Among Players - Stat - Year

Bottom 10% - Any - Entire League - VORP - last year
AND
Top 10% - Any - Entire League - VORP - this year

Or Reliever of the Year with:

Top 5% - RP - Entire League - ERA - this year
AND
Top 5% - RP - Entire League - SV - this year

Of course, something would have to be done in the case that no players fall under any of these categories

My Suggestion is Multi Part... SO I will call it, "Make Feeder Leagues work better"

Step 1) Allow feeder leagues to feed into another Feeder league.
EX. A HS player not drafted goes to college

Step 2) A "Force into Draft" button, ala The Retire button
EX. This allows for a GM to manually have their own early entries.

More attention to how individual games play out:

1)more realistic baserunning; i.e. less station to station baserunning..a bit more players thrown out stretching out hits or attempting to take extra bases..maybe based on bench coach ratings seeing as there are no 3rd base coaches in the game

2)more realistic opponent AI in-game management..no more consecutive sac bunts..more late inning defensive subbing

3)bring back ejections

Given the obvious time constraints, I'll limit it to - I think - the relatively simple. It's been mentioned in past years; brought up again today:

Enable the game-owner to select 2-3 players isolated on screen for a line by line comparison. Thinking out loud here, could it be as simple as adding a duplicate Player Shortlist screen and simply call it the Player Comparison? That, or add to the Shortlist screen the ability to move the players about so that their respective lines could be juxtaposed?

Probably more complicated. Add a filter to Show Players by sub-league.

Two suggestions:

1: Improve the SION player page by:

a) Color coding player history (http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=144227)
b) Including Stars (http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=144219)

2. Include pitch location graphic in the broadcast screen.

If I could have one new feature, what would it be?

Allow player ratings to be generated by inputting desired stats.

Mine is twofold...........group player histories on the player card by category, and give me manager histories (hired, fired dates, maybe a manager of the year award?)

Just off the top of my head I'd say the option to argue a call which could result in an ejection(in was in the game in the past) and although mentioned on the boards already I liked the option to take the extra base myself and not done automatically.

1) Create an "Inaugural Draft Preference" that allows you to choose from:
- Heavily Favor Overall Ratings
- Favor Overall Ratings
- Neutral
- Favor Potential Ratings
- Heavily Favor Potential Ratings
(similar to the "Trading Preferences")

2) More Wildcard/Playoff options

Last edited by Kuttner; 04-04-2007 at 07:26 PM. Reason: Meant to say "Potential"

Leagues with multiple nations and nation specific teams, i.e. a world league with Japanese players only on the Japanese team, Germans on the German team, etc.

Bring back a Spring Training system that allows you to actually improve your players ratings rather than just "get the rust off." Also, allow the minor leagues to participate in Spring Training.

As it is now, I can only "get the rust off" of the players on my 40 man roster while my highly touted, 18 year old, 1st round pick sits and I can do nothing to help him develop. Very frustrating. I enjoyed being able to direct a player's development deciding what he would "practice" during the spring.

Here's another I came across the otehr day... My star shortstop sent a message in May that he wanted an extension. I waited until August to offer him one, but by then he had decided to test the Free Agent market.

Now I don't mind that, but (and here's the new feature) it would have been nice if he (like real life players) would say. "I'd like to work out an extension before the All-Star Break!" (or any other random date would do) That way, I have an idea of how long I have to "talk" with him.

Include history for all coaches/GMs/scouts/doctors. I'd like to watch a coach work his way up from HS batting coach to major league GM. Including the records of the team he worked for would go a far ways...

I'm going to echo this request as well. Creating a player with ratings then hoping for a particular statistic range almost seems backwards in a way.

How about scouting by sub-league?

I'd like to be able to full-scout just the National League where my team plays and quick scout the AL.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one is probably for a future version but it would be nice to get periodic reports from scouts when on long assignments. Ala if it takes a scout 250 days to scout a league I don't think he'd stay out of contact until he was done. He should be filing reports on a regular basis. IE 30 days into the assignment he files something like "Well so far I've completed scouting the teams in the Westen division...."
