Weird - saw OOTP on the newsgroups today

don't know if it worked as I've had mine since pre-order - they claimed to have a crack - I thought elicense was uncrackable. Thought Marc and the guys might want to be aware of this though.

FWIW, I've seen a "cracked" version of EHM floating around, too. I wonder if somebody figured out a way to crack eLicense after all...

The cracked version of EHM simply removed the nag screens. You still couldn't play past six months. As far as I know, e-license hasn't been beaten yet.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe I am.

Please, for the love of god turn in any website or person that may claim to have this. It's crap like this that took out EHM and we can't let pirates do this to OOTP. Make sure you send the info to Marc ASAP.

It's been "beaten" for years. You don't have to get a "crack" for elicense, though, you can do something else with it. While it might not be unbeatable, it at least makes it a lot harder to get a working version than simply searching a torrent site for it. If someone has actually gone ahead and posted a working version to a newsgroup that's very bad news for SI though as soon it will probably be just as easy to get as any other program. Maybe the people who verified it are mistaken and it's just like the supposed cracked version of EHM2007.

i unlicensed, uninstalled, installed with their version and put the cracked exe in my ootp folder and it started right up

i tried to see if i could update, hoping that the patch would fix it but i got a message saying i have the most up to date version

That really sucks, I don't want to see this game cracked, Marcus doesn't deserve that and this game is great and it could really hurt in the long run, if we want to see more versions of this game lets all turn in every news group that has this game on it...I know I will..

unfortunately i don't think you can turn in a newsgroup - it's pretty much public domain - it's the reason the riaa hasn't gone after it - they can't

That's my understanding as well. As soon as it's out there, I don't think there's really anything you can do about it. You can put out another patch and hope it doesn't get cracked too, but if it doesn't most people will probably just continue on playing with the unpatched, but cracked version. That is, unless they're in an online league and the league uses the patched version in which case they'll probably need it too or they might encounter problems.

did you try simming past the 6 months? all my places say the crack doesn't work it just removes the nag. game still craps out after 6 game months

Are you serious? The NSA spends tens of millions on sophisticated technologies that still are crackable and you think a game licensing program is going to be uncrackable? Hah!

All it takes is one dedicated person. Nothing is uncrackable.

Too bad it happened to OOTP. There's not much that can be done now

Of course, EHM was the same situation, and the game was canned because of "piracy." That was, IMHO, a load of bunk. Poor sales due to poor advertising led to EHM's demise.

For as great of a game as EHM was, I think this one may be better, so hopefully the sales will support this one.
