A great idea is to set up a stand near the entrance of a baseball game or college campus. Have banners, pictures, flyers, etc and your Laptop showing off the game and what it can do.

as soon as the fan made MLB rosters are made i will be advertising it to some of my baseball friends, the fact is without real rosters they would have no interest in the game.

That's a very good idea.

Maybe you could offer it to the game sites (IGN, CNet, Gamespy, Gamespot, Op Sports, etc) as a digital download.

I haven't checked the SEGA site out today, but it should definitely be promoted there. That shouldn't cost you anything, or very little.

I wonder if he paid to get on there or if he courted the hosts. Sometimes persistance pays off. One email is great, but a follow up can't hurt.

The killer is that OOTP blows BM out of the water...way out of the water, and we should be capitalizing on that fact anywhere and everywhere that will listen.

How about baseball america, both on the web and in print? Also, if any of you guys check out other forums, you could link it in your sig, if its allowed. I do.

How about other forums. Just make one thread about the game.

say, going to a dodgers forum, saying "think u can do better than ned colletti (their gm)?"

then tlak about how great the game is, and how bad juan pierre is (because dodger fans already hate him)

that can be considered spam tho and may make ppl not want to try the game

The great thing about that is that's not only good for BM, but good for OOTP too because so many BMers eventually become OOTPers.

Some google search terms that you may want to get linked with..
"APBA baseball"
"Statis-pro baseball"

This will pull in people who are looking for baseball management type games.

Change the name of the game to "Paris Hilton Presents: Bebo's World Cup Wikiball 2007"?

Someone needs to write us a kick ass article about the game then we can all use it to submit to our local papers and school papers.

Also the search terms for google should include every great stat book about baseball so it comes up when people search for it. When they are trying to find a nice $100 copy of the hidden game of baseball, they see this link to OOTP and it really goes hand in hand with the interest.

The color ads in Game Informer are very good I always check out those games and at a minimum read about them. This would help people to find the download.

Reach for the sky idea:

Create at fictional retro Strat o matic type game with OOTP plastered on it and code it with XNA and have it as free download on XBOX Live. Huge exposure and a funnel to the main game. You could even work in a way to use your current players that you export. Microtranactions could also allow better players, but you can enable a point cap per team to keep it fair.

Last one for right now:

You graphics guys can do this quick. Whoever has a historical league that is fictional, find a HOF guy with a checkered start to his career. Use the game stats page as background and his face gen pic framed in the middle. Go over his stats like 550 HR, lifetime .302 batter, 2500 hits.....on and on. Then post his stats from the year he was traded or released or anthing, you have to find the right person. Then at the bottom say

"His GM gave up on him....what would you do?

Game Name
Website
Direct link to demo

I'm not sure how much these will help, but below are a few websites/email addy's that may be able to help.

This is the website to a local and popular minot league club near where I live. I'm pretty sure they sell out every game, and last year I actually had a player come into the store I worked and buy a bunch of video game stuff.
www.lakewoodblueclaws.com

This email address is for the technology editor for the Asbury Park Press, a pretty popular newspaper that covers most of central and southern New Jersey. I'm pretty sure that every weekend they do some tech articles, with an occasional video game review/article here and there. His name is David Willis dwillis@app.com

This email address is for the sports editor of the same newspaper. His name is Greig Henderson ghenderson@app.com

I hope this helps

George

I'm copying part of my post from the "How did you first hear about OOTP?" thread.

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=145366

It's a little off the topic but does have to do with selling the game in the future with an "in-store" release. If you look at the poll, at least at the current time, almost 17% of buyers found the game in a store under the "Season Ticket" title and that hasn't been in stores since 2002(?). If in 2007
17% of users, that post on these boards, found the game in-store what was the percent of users in 2002? 40%? 50%? Who knows but it seems at one time a significant number of posters had found the game while shopping in a real store.

From my post in the other thread....

Quote:
I know SI tried selling EHM and WWSM in stores without much success. I would hope that one day they'll try OOTP again. Baseball games will have a much better chance of getting some sales and attention. Especially if this stats "ownership" is resolved in favor of being public domain.

A boxed edition of the game, in Wal Marts BB's etc, that could display on it the ability to import all seasons from 1901-present through Lehman (hopefully already on the disk) along with a Sega\SI logo would demand attention. I know it would draw my attention.

When I go to a store I always browse the game section and in particular look at the sports games, while I can't say I spend a lot of time searching the net for some unknown game. Having the game out there for people to see (again especially if importing from Lehman can be prominently featured on the box) would help the online ads be more successful. Think about it, you see the ad on the web and as some others have posted forget the name. Now however you are in your local Wal Mart and just seeing the ootp box jogs your memory and you have one of those "I think that's the game I read about on the net" moments so you take the time to pick up the box for a closer look. Now the "toy" is in your grubby hands and it's just a matter of defying the wife and making a purchase
I know there are costs to doing this but when you see 17% of sales (and yes it's limited to who responded and also posts here) probably wouldn't have the game except for the fact they found it in a store, then maybe it is something SI\Sega will want to look at in the future after the "stats ownership" issues have been resolved.

DOLLAR Stores.....

What does it cost to mass produce a CD? Not much. Since OOTP5 is already FREE, why not offer this in Dollar Store Chains. Add a in game link to this site and I bet you will have a lot of the $1.00 a game buyers wanting the NEW version. I bought a lot of CHEAP movies and games at the Dollar Store. Most really do SUCK but hey it's only a buck. YOU WILL get others that feel That it is only a buck and give it a try - once hooked they will buy.......

My brother manages a dollar store and he told me that his store is a $1M store with sales of over $3500 a day - items at $1 at a time...... could 5 of those 3500 items be OOTP5? Multiply this by the number of dollar stores out there and you will see how this could work......

My theory is that if you get the taste of OOTP with version 5 you WILL get 2007.

Are you still doing any radio advertising? When OOTP2006 came out, I noticed several (seemed locally produced ads) on ESPN 950 in Richmond. One day the host was giving away a copy as a prize. As a regular caller, I was able to get on the show for a few minutes and talk about the aspects of the game.

If we (the OOTP community) know what radio outlets are being advertised on, perhaps others can get on the air to talk about the product.
