I'm a High Heat veteran as well. IIRC, that was the best video game for stats and realism that I had played up until that time. That's not saying much, though. Comparing HH to OOTP is like comparing Windows 3.1 to Windows Vista, in my opinion. And the stuff that I played in the meantime (except SOM, which never could hold my attention because I like fictional play), went downhill from HH.

A few of the options fit for me so I'm not going to select one.

I found v4 on Gamespot.com when I was looking for a game like the old Hardball games I used to play. Of the recent baseball releases at the time it had the best reviews on gamespot and elsewhere so I got it and fell in love with it.

Last I checked, though, 2007 doesn't even have a review at Gamespot.

Randomly found it online when I was looking for a replacement for FPS/High Heat. I had no idea there were other people out there that were into this kind of stuff like me, none of my friends were into baseball and stats so I always thought I was just odd.

I responded that I read about it in another gaming forum, although that's not entirely accurate. I read a recommendation at a fantasy baseball website a few years ago. I've never seen this website make any comments about any other baseball sim ever (before or since), and I respect them highly so it certainly caught my attention.

Same here. What struck me odd though, was that this little gem was coming from Europe!

I was looking at purchasing a PC version of Strat-O-Matic (I think I was searching for that anyway, I never did buy it) and in my search of strat previews/reviews stumbled upon OOTP about a month prior to the release of OOTP2... well, I bought that and every version since. I fondly remember how the messageboard was those first couple years before the game grew to what it is today...

Indeed - a great little channel in my opinion. And currently OOTP has an ad that runs every second or third ad break when baseball or a baseball programme is showing. I hope that SI gets their money's worth from it.

For me, it was a few years back when I found an old notebook with stat sheets I saved when a friend and I played Earl Weaver Baseball as kids nearly 20 years ago. I was thinking about how fun that was and started wondering if there was any product like it out there now. A web search first yielded Baseball Mogul, which I tried, and OOTP. I can't remember which version, I think it was v5. Anyway, its probably obvious that I enjoyed OOTP better than Mogul and ... here I am.

I used to play FPS and then HighHeat after FPS tanked. HighHeat became unplayable so I tried baseball arcade games, none of which I liked. I found a website (I forget the name, I've long since stopped visiting there) that catered to baseball gamers, and looked for threads about what baseball arcade games were good (hoping to find a decent arcade game). Well, I noticed a thread that asked people to rate the best baseball sim, and in it the posters said that OOTP5 was the very best, hands down.

Honestly, I had no idea what a baseball "sim" was.

But after reading the comments I did a google search to find Out of the Park Developments' website. After reading it, I decided to buy OOTP5 and give it a try. I haven't bought (or played) another arcade game since!

For me, I was looking to see if there was an upgraded version of APBA baseball for Windows. I wound up finding OOTP and Diamond Mind. Bought both. Played Diamond Mind for about an hour tops and now play OOTP exclusively (besides Call of Duty, Wii sports, Zelda and the Twighlight princess, Kingdom Hearts, X-men legends...)

I really don't recall how I found it buy my guess is an internet search. I actually had somehow found out about Baseball Mogul first and I played that for a while before finding OOTP6.

I played APBA - dice/board baseball game - 1954 through 1958.

The guys in the neighborhood would play it on rainy days when we couldn't play real baseball.

Then I had to become an adult for the next 44 years...I played a lot of baseball, softball and basketball...but no simulated games.

I retired and began to look for some hobbies. I went to the internet and searched baseball computer games. I looked to see if APBA still existed and it did.

And found OOTPB...V3 I think.

I looked at the other games, but settled on OOTPB. I could design my own baseball universe with it.

It was the game of my dreams. It even kept score, league standings and stats.

Wow, I was in baseball heaven.

Thank goodness for computers and the internet.

And thank goodness for Markus Heinsohn and OOTPB.

The first text sim I played was Eastside Hockey Manager way back in the day before it was SI. Ever since then I wanted a baseball text sim. I played Baseball Mogul a long time ago but it was still fairly raw at the time and didn't have simple things like the amateur draft. Years later I looked up baseball sims OOTP had great reviews from everyone. I tried out the demo and the rest is history.

I was an FOF player, and they came out with multiplayer. A guy named Bill Abner started a league (New City Football League), and he tapped into my exp. a little with things like the game pbp viewer. Anyway, after a couple months, I told Bill what I would REALLY like was FOF for baseball, and he turned me onto OOTP (version 5), and his online league (New City Baseball League - lol). As it turns out, most of the guys in the football league had come from his baseball league. I prefered "real rosters", but stuck with NCBL for a couple seasons (learning and getting raped by the vets lol). Go Novi Drillers !

Anyway, been hooked ever since.

I came across it by accident. I think I seached stats based baseball or something like that. Came across baseball mogul first, didnt care for it after toying with the demo. About a week later I found OOTP. Its been on my computer ever since.
