Feature revision request: Allow historical league changes for fictional leagues

I've mentioned this elsewhere but I figured I'd make a formal request now that I've seen how well this works.

The game currently allows you to set it so that it will perform all franchise movements and renamings as you go through history. However, it is set so that it will only do it if your leagues use the abbreviations "AL" or "NL" (as stated by Markus).

I would like to submit a request that this limitation be removed and that the game will make any movements for leagues already in the game. This would allow us to make custom fictional league histories in Lahman format in advance for those of us who play long-term fictional leagues.

So if you have an IL or a UL and there is such a league in your customized league history, the game would take those and go with them.

Eventually, it would be nice if everything from league starts to league foldings could be in there, but for now, just having the AL/NL limitation removed would do wonders for people who play like me (there must be a few who plan out fictional histories in advance out there).

A couple of other people and myself made similar suggestions during beta for fictional leagues to be able to use this kind of "pre-determined" history. Would add a nice twist to fictional leagues folks might put together and offer for others to download and play.

I actually hadn't even thought of the portability idea, but that is an interesting one. I could make a league with all kinds of oddities in it and others could play it, too. Or someone could create the real minor leagues to go along with the majors and we could actually play out history (though we'd still have to handle assigning affiliations ourselves, I'm sure).

Along these lines, since I'm in the middle of trying to put together an historical league based on the Federal League, and it appears the only historical leagues from Lahman that the game will read and import are AL and NL, I'd like to see the ability to import the FL and any other historical leagues that are supported by Lahman.

Or, if this is possible and I'm just an idiot, please tell me now, as it will save a tremendous amount of work for me.

I've done a lot of stuff with the Federal League. The only way to get it to import is to do it team-by-team. The FL doesn't get very good support. I do wish it supported nonstandard leagues and pre-1901 leagues better and hope the game heads that way in the future.

Help a newbie with team-by-team creation?

I too was thinking of doing a Federal League recreation. Got nowhere with the manual. Can you explain (or point me to the explanation in the manual) how one creates a league one team at a time? I'd be grateful!

I actually haven't tried it out, but it is in the Edit League Configuration screen, I believe. There is a button to import specific historical teams.

One thing to be wary of when importing individual teams, though, is that if someone played for more than one team, he'll be duplicated (at least that happened in previous versions).

Thank you

That seems to have worked, although I had to do a little fiddling with the database files to get the game to recognize the teams in the DB (namely change "FL" to "AL" in the league column). Seems good now--

Thank you!
